Austin doesn't have a national sporting team, but that doesn't mean we don't know a thing or two about team spirit. We are home to the University of Texas Longhorns, after all, and on game days the town bleeds orange. We also have our fair share of transplants who have stayed true to their own team's roots. For a sports bar primer, check out our list of best Austin sports bars.

It doesn't matter the sporting season, this upscale sports bar, lounge and restaurant has game day (and night) covered with a multitude of flat-screens in Allandale. Sure, you can get an order of chicken wings and a plate of nachos, but Cover 3 is also known for its upscale cuisine. Dine on filet mignon and scallops while you keep track of the score.

909 N Lamar Blvd, Austin, TX 78703 (map)

If the oversized New Orleans’ Saints helmet mounted to the roof doesn't give it away, this happens to be the headquarters for Crescent City sports fans. On NFL Sundays and college football Saturdays, cheers from Saints and Tigers fans can be heard from blocks away. Don't miss the po'boys and crawfish etouffée.

This beer garden is unofficial known as the University of Texas Longhorns headquarters. Don't dare step into this campus-area bar if you aren't sporting burnt orange and don't know the words to the alma mater "Texas Fight." Here, it's all about the proximity to the stadium and the German-style beers served on draft.

96 Rainey St, Austin, TX 78701 (map)

This is the hippest of sports bars in Austin. Combining sports bars and hipsters may sound odd, but trust us, it works. Located in the uber-cool Rainey Street District, Bar 96 is an unassuming converted house disguised as a sports bar. If sports aren’t your thing, gather around and feed your competitive edge with a game of Jenga, Twister, Checkers and the like. Indulge in draft and bottle beers, a small, but exclusive, wine selection or a cocktail from the full-liquor bar.
