What People Are Saying About The Salt Lick

In Short – The wooden tables and benches outside are lined with locals treating out-of-town guests to a real taste of Texas. The native stone and cedar building, like the food itself, is rustic and welcoming. The dark-banded brisket is moist and tender, the pork ribs are lean, the turkey breast stands up to its meaty competitors and a slightly sweet BBQ sauce finishes with a hint of honey mustard. You can order family-style, by the plate or sandwich.
Editor's Tips
- The Extras:
- Thanks to one of the few open-pit barbecues left in central Texas, you can see the meat smoking over the handmade stone ring.
- Save Time:
- The drive to Driftwood is easy, but the Salt Lick also ships to any address in the U.S.
- Know Before You Go:
- Remember that this popular joint is B.Y.O.B.--so stock up on your way out there to take in some booze with the scenery, especially if there is a wait.

I have never been to the original but Round Rock...

Round Rock just opened up a location next to the Dell Diamond or at least within the past year, it's good BBQ, but for the price I actually stopped at Rudy's for BBQ on the way out to Dell diamond recently. I'm not saying it's bad, but it's Texas so you know it has to be great to charge a litte extra.
