In Short – Owned by Texas State University at San Marcos, Aquarena Center lets the public tour the grounds, historic buildings, educational exhibits and aquarium. The large freshwater aquarium brings alligators, Texas wild rice and freshwater eels up close and personal. Individual aquariums feature gambusia, fountain darters and the San Marcos Dwarf Salamander. Aquarena Springs focuses on historical and cultural aspects of the area, as well as the endangered and protected plant and animal life in the San Marcos River.

Know Before You Go:
While admission to the center is free, the glass-bottom boat trips cost a small fee. Tickets are available at the box office and run $7 for adults, $5 for children (ages 4-15) and seniors are $6. They operate from 10am to 5pm, daily.

The beautifully maintained facility is also available for private parties, weddings and other events.
