Tips for Rio Bonito Resort

March 24, 2013

Run, don't walk away from this place. It is a beautiful location on the river but the cabins are nothing short of dozer bait. Filthy! Let me repeat...FILTHY! The place is not maintained in any way and is falling apart. The ONLY cleaning is done by the renters, the owners do NOTHING to clean them. I am not exaggerating when I say that the cabins are furnished from things gathered from the dump. Appalling does not begin to describe these cabins. If you ignore this advice, you disserve what you get.

dirty...dangerous cabins. We had insects in our bed, layers of dust, cobwebs, types of food we did not bring on the floor(Cherios), dirty dishes when we arrived, dusty-dirty couch, an allergy nightmare! We were there for three days and had to spend one day cleaning ans shopping for basic living supplies.

Doors falling off because they were not hung with proper hinges. Toliet was not attached to the floor and the wax ring for the toliet was black. A toliet wax ring collects feces and prevents it from going out the side of the toliet, so there was basically exposed feces....to cover the stink, they provided air freshners. We had a toddler and the bathroom door did not shut to prevent him from touching it!! The bathroom flooring was also coming up and mold was visible.

Bring your own, sheets, blankets, towels (dish, bath, & river), hand soap, dish soap, garbage bags, toliet paper, paper towels, etc. Our BBQ grill was rusted and the stove/oven did not work...it took an hour to slow cook scrambled eggs on high. The fridge was tiny and outdated with a sign that said to keep items in a cooler if it didn't keep cold enough. Both beds were leaning to one side and I almost pushed my husband out each night due to sliding toward him.

The owners were very rude, they insulted us within ear shot to our friends...they claimed we were trying to get a free vacation because we did not know to bring cash and they were never in the office when my husband went three times trying to pay. They even lied saying my husband yelled at her and threw things at her. I was standing right there and she was the one kicking attitude, not my husband.

Until recently, I was raised in the country and I understand outdated and rustic, but this place was filthy and unmaintained!!!

However, the river was beautiful!!! We did not let this ruin our time, but there are better places to stay with the same beautiful river, so I rated the overall experience based on the "resort" itself and not the location.
