BEwARE OF THIS HOTEL

I frequent Austin for weekend getaways and chose the Omni for the first time, as I got a great rate on Hotwire. First I will say the rooms were small but nice. The housekeeping was very friendly, as were the bellhops. However, the first night I came back to lobby after a night out with friends. I am in my 30s, and not some college kid cruising in drunk from 6th street. Long story short, a very low class group of girls drunk and looking for a fight were provoking my friends in elevator. As we continued to ignore them, this angered this and I ended up being punched. After filing a police report, she wasnt kicked out of hotel! The mgr and general mgr were RUDE and not accomodating after the girl threatened to finish me off later. THey said I could change hotels at MY expense. So you can get kicked out for noise as policy says at check in, but clock someone in face and you can stay! Mgmt handled POORLY. Also, they put made up charges on our bill. Had to argue that as well. The guests at pool were so trashy like something at a motel 6. NEVER EVER AGAIN would I stay here. Very disappointing stay.
- Pros: friendly housekeeping
- Cons: everythign else under the sun
Avoid weekends and 6th Street drunks
by chefescoffier at Citysearch
This place may work for weekday business, but avoid it at all costs on weekends with families. This very sterile business hotel is located a block or two from the famous/infamous 6th Street party scene. The guests reminded me of what you'd see in a Las Vegas casino: loud, boisterous and inappropriate.
Our daughter was accosted by a drunk on the way back to her room with a pizza. The price of passage was a slice. The management appeared unimpressed with the report. I guess it is not uncommon.

This is a great hotel to stay in. It is central to everything downtown. We used it to house our out of town wedding guests. The hotel assigned a coordinator for the rooms, and set up a great rate. They gave us a 3 room suite for free for booking the rooms with them, and a free night to use at a later date. The hotel is fun and relaxed, with attentive staff. Rooms are standard, but the rooftop pool and jacuzzi are fun! They created a great atmosphere for a large wedding party.
