Tips for Austin Shoe Hospital

I tip my hat to Austin Shoe Hospital. I have been using the downtown store of Austin Shoe Hospital for years. I find the manager a breath of fresh air. He is always cordial, personable and professional. And he does a great job on my shoes. I used to just purchase new shoes when the old ones became a bit worn out. Why would anyone do that when these guys can make them look and feel brand new for a fraction of the price. I can't say enough about the service they provide.

Above and beyond. I have always come here and will always be back. Jayson is the nicest guy and always greets with a smile. I have had my boots over hauled here for many years with the work being beyond my expectations. Things happen from time to time but he is always there to help with out hesitation. My heel fell off during one of our cool 103 deg days. Dont ask me how just did. I hobbled over to see Jayson and within 15 mins, all was right in my world. He didnt charge me a DIME to fix it. He said it was his pleasure and would just catch me next time. Who does that kinda thing these days? If you want honest service with a smile go see him you wont be disappointed.

Poor customer service and overpriced. I had been going to the Austin Shoe Hospital on Burnet for years and the work was always good. Since my office is downtown I tried using their location on Congress Ave. Big mistake. The guy behind the counter - he's the manager, I think - is really condescending and unpleasant to deal with. In fact, they've recently ruined a pair of my shoes (I brought them in for heel and sole repairs and they came back with the uppers totally bent out of shape). When I asked about the damage, the manager tried to imply that I brought them in that way. "I should be more careful checking shoes before we accept them," he said. As if I was trying to pull one over on them when the shoes came back to me with damage that definitely wasn't there when I dropped them off. To be fair, they did try to repair the damage, but couldn't fix the shoes. And then when I went to pick up the shoes a second time, still not repaired correctly, the manager charged me full price to get my broken shoes back. What a missed opportunity in customer service. I know that sometimes things happen and it's not always perfect. I can handle that. It's the way the manager dealt with me that's the problem. And to top it off, the shoes are now not wearable. Disappointing all the way around. Lousy customer service, an unpleasant store manager, shoes that are destroyed, and they charged me full price for the experience. I've been OK with other Austin Shoe Hospital locations in the past, but as long as this is the guy they have in charge of their Congress Avenue store I want nothing to do with the place.

This place is AWSOME. This is my first review ever.

I couldn't help but say how amazing this place is. The Manager is very personable and patient. I didn't once feel rushed even though his phone was ringing and others were in line behind me.

I didn't realize what all could be done to my old shoes to make them new agian. Like another reviewer said, dont throw away your old shoes till you come first!

To top off the whole experience, the location downtown on congress is the oldest store in the company. It has an old fashioned feel to it. To that, the manager weres button down long sleeve shirts and slacks to work on shoes! I asked why, he pointed at a picture on the wall and said, "they did it a hundred years ago, why cant I do it today?". I was suprised by that, I will never go anywhere else. It's getting too hard to find dedication and customer service these days.

Oh, and my shoes are PERFECT now. Time to dive in my closet and see what else I can find. lol

Don't throw away your shoes!. Take them to Austin Shoe Hospital instead. They can help you with most shoe repairs as well as leather reapirs. I've had some purses fixed that had broken straps, etc. They always do a great job and the price is reasonable considering you don't have to go out and buy a new pair of $100 shoes and then kill your feet trying to break them in.

Poor delivery and lack of customer service. I thought I had found the perfect place when I needed to have some customization done on cowboy boots. I wouldn't call the guy at the desk friendly by any means but he did say that it would be no trouble to sew some patches on to my boots in just a few days. A few days went by and I hadn't heard from the store so I called. I was told that he needed to talk to someone else and that I should call back the next day. So I called three days in a row (never once did this individual volunteer to call me). Finally, only a few days before I needed these boots to be finished, I was told that this would be custom order and that it would be another week before they were finished. Make sure if you take anything here that you get an honest and legitimate estimate for when your repairs will be finished. If they can't give you one, go elsewhere.

First Timer - Great Experience!. It was the first time I've ever had my shoes repaired. Usually I just by a new pair. However, decided to try it. They did an amazing job! The heel and sole were completely worn through. They were replaced and the shoe was reconditioned like new. The great thing was they are already worn in and comfortable. My dress shoes looked like one of thier before and after pictures. Although it took a week, will definitely do again. Worth the $40.00 to make my shoes look a million dollars!
