Editorial Review for Mekong River Vietnamese & Thai Cuisine – by James Scott Bankston

In Short
A favorite with downtowners, this restaurant has prompt seating and courteous service. Walls are covered with Asian art and musical instruments. Most come for pho; unusual and exotic ingredients include eye-round steak, flank, soft tendon, marble brisket and book tripe. Other dishes include the seafood rice plate, with stir-fry shrimp, scallops, squid, crabmeat, fish balls, mushrooms and mixed vegetables. Don't pass up cafe sua da--iced coffee served with condensed milk--an unusual, tasty treat.

My boyfriend and I love this place. Pad Thai is one of my favorite dishes and they have the best best one I have tried in Austin. Also, their sticky rice custard pudding is awesome. They give you you a huge serving and its absolutely delicious. Waiters and waitresses are very sweet and always on top of things. We initially tried this place becausewe had a coupon, but liked it so much we have been back at least 5 times.

Pros: Great food and service

Cons: Parking since its on 6th St.

I want to know what is going on with their food quality? They serve the worst vietnamese food in Austin. I ordered Pho Dac Biet and it comes out with broccoli, bell peppers, mushrooms and cabbage? Their broth tastes like it's been frozen for years! Their service is the worst and their waiters/waitresses should shower more and dress more professionally as servers. I used to like them when they were Pho Cong Ly. I don't understand why the quality of your food and service has diminished soo much. It's really disappointing and they need a serious look at what they're serving and who is serving it. Their food is simply terrible and they need a new cook, management or something to improve their situation. I can't believe the think that they make and serve authentic Vietnamese and Thai food. Their food is the worst! I hope they improve on it soon.

Pros: It's downtown and they know how to make rice properly.

Cons: The food is the worst vietnamese food in Austin.

Fast and cheap, with Vietnamese flavor that's out of control.  See the full editorial review.
