Awful. I love both Vietnamese and Thai food and this place doesn't seem to serve either. The weirdest experience because everything was gross and unrecognizable. Not fresh ingredients at all, bland salad rolls, mushy and grainy tofu. Blech. Wonderful waiter and very prompt service, but really awfully prepared food. Visiting Austin and was really disappointed.
Awesome Vietnamese downtown!. I went simple - Pho ga. It was perfect! Admittedly, it might not be 100% traditional, but then again, show me an Austin Vietnamese (or other Asian spot) that is! I am so thrilled to have found this spot and will return often!
best pad thai. This spot wedged in between a liquor store and Buffalo Billiards is a secret spot downtown. Some of the best pad that I have eaten, next to Thai Tara. Great appetizers and the green and yellow curry both are amazing. You have to ward off the street vagrants but well worth it.
One of the worst I have tasted.... I'm not sure what the nationality of the people that are giving this restaurant a 4-5 star, but I think this is 1 at best. I am half Vietnamese & half Thai. I went to this restaurant and ordered Pho ('Guoi Tiao' in Thai). The soup was bland and it came with a number of veggies that aren't suppose to be in there (broccoli, carrot, water chestnut, bamboo shoots, celery...). If you like veggies and you don't know what pho is, this bowl might be good for you. My friends ordered the vermicelli noodle bowl (bun in viet, knom jean in thai) and it was horrible just because the fish sauce was tasteless. If you want real thai/viet place, do NOT go here. You will only be disappointed.
Good food, low price. I went here to grab dinner before I went to a concert while I was in Austin. The tofu, as well as the rest of the food, was very good. The service was also efficient. For two people, the bill was under $20 so this also makes the resturant ideal.
Best Pad Thai in town.
My boyfriend and I love this place. Pad Thai is one of my favorite dishes and they have the best best one I have tried in Austin. Also, their sticky rice custard pudding is awesome. They give you you a huge serving and its absolutely delicious.
Waiters and waitresses are very sweet and always on top of things. We initially tried this place becausewe had a coupon, but liked it so much we have been back at least 5 times.
THE WORST VIETNAMESE FOOD IN AUSTIN!. I want to know what is going on with their food quality? They serve the worst vietnamese food in Austin. I ordered Pho Dac Biet and it comes out with broccoli, bell peppers, mushrooms and cabbage? Their broth tastes like it's been frozen for years! Their service is the worst and their waiters/waitresses should shower more and dress more professionally as servers. I used to like them when they were Pho Cong Ly. I don't understand why the quality of your food and service has diminished soo much. It's really disappointing and they need a serious look at what they're serving and who is serving it. Their food is simply terrible and they need a new cook, management or something to improve their situation. I can't believe the think that they make and serve authentic Vietnamese and Thai food. Their food is the worst! I hope they improve on it soon.
Much better. FIRE THE DAY WAITER NOW!!! This man is the absolute worst excuse for a waiter of all time. Rude, obnxious, snotty jerks should not be waiting on people.
GREAT PLACE TO EAT! DON'T LISTEN TO THE NEGATIVE REVIEWS!.
My husband and I read the reviews before eating at Mekong River. We weren't sure what to expect since some reviews were glowing and some reviews were not favorable. However, we found the restaurant to have a charming atmosphere, great wait staff and good food. We went on a Friday during lunch and there was only one other family in the place.
We had a very good experience. I would definitely recommend this place.
Horrible customer service. I found this restaurant on Citysearch and read the comments on the service. The service was awful, the male waiter was so rude for anything we ask. He acted as if it was an inconvenience to ask for a napkin, extra limes, sauce. The food was not all that great either. I order the Pho Tai and the meat was tough and my friend ordered the pork vermicelli and the meat was tough too. I have yet found a great Vietnamese place but I will not go back to this one.
