Their Tom Kha soup was excellent as was the Pho, spring rolls and noodle bowls. Service was quick friendly and helpful, and our check was taken from the table not at the counter as another reviewer experienced. We will go back again and again! Parking is sometimes a challenge...but this isn't the suburbs ya'll! Check them out!
Great Thai, Well Priced.. We ordered the chicken Pad Thai and the charcoal pork vermicelli bowl. Both were delicious! My first visit (although the person that took me goes all the time and says it is always good). I thought it was great and will be adding this to my list of restaurants to frequent :)
great lunch spot!. I eat here as often as I can since I work only a few blocks away. The best Thai in Austin, in my opinion.
Fast and cheap, with Vietnamese flavor that's out of control..
In Short
A favorite with downtowners, this restaurant has prompt seating and courteous service. Walls are covered with Asian art and musical instruments. Most come for pho; unusual and exotic ingredients include eye-round steak, flank, soft tendon, marble brisket and book tripe. Other dishes include the seafood rice plate, with stir-fry shrimp, scallops, squid, crabmeat, fish balls, mushrooms and mixed vegetables. Don't pass up cafe sua da--iced coffee served with condensed milk--an unusual, tasty treat.

they are the best again. I have moved away from downtown of Austin, but once in a while I took family members or friends come for my Vietnamese favorite at this restaurant. My last visit was excellent, and all my friends liked the food a lot. I had "Saigon Mistress" which is grilled beef marinated with chili, lemongrass, rice kernel. My friends ordered Pad Thai with shrimp and Pho bowl. We are very pleased with the food.
your day at austin from DFW. Mekong River is serving best Vietnamese and Thai food in downtown area. The owner is also owns Thai Tara, which is a few block away, this location is only serving Thai. But the recipe is different, same customers like the Thai Food at Mekong River better than Thai Tara. However, I think they are both good but different. I am sorry for a couple from DFW area that seemed to expect McDonald taste at Burger King and disappointed. It is okay for you to express your anger the way you like, and of course it tells who you are. Good luck to you in all. I am a loyal customer and have been satisfied with Vietnamese and most items in Thai menu, I have been treated right by staff at Mekong River, especially many thanks to Lily, Max... See you there!
Good lunch spot. Great lunch spot - try the charcoal shrimp vermicelli bowl - it's awesome. I do recommend avoiding the chicken, though. Shrimp spring rolls will amaze you - you'll crave them, trust me. Great lunchtime value.
Great Food. Great Food. Great Value. Fast, efficient service. Highly recommended for fast, inexpensive, healthy meal.
Phat Pho. We were visiting Austin from Houston and went into Mekong after walking around 6th street for a while. I had the Pho and my fiance had the "Dancing Chicken". We both LOVED our dinner! It had a nice ambiance and service was great. I would definately recomend this place to others! YUM!
