The Boiling Pot

Tasty Gulf Coast tradition borrowed from the Cajun Bayou country

  • Seafood to go
  • Domestic and import beers
  • 6th Street location

Founded by Dot Le Blanc, The Boiling Pot began 21 years ago down in Rockport, Texas. Since then we have added the 6th Street location providing Austin with Cajun-style boiled seafood, heavy on the spices, in a casual family atmosphere.

Pull up a chair at our tables draped with butcher paper, tie a bib around your neck, and grab a wooden mallet! We pride ourselves on serving you the best boudin, shrimp, blue crabs, stone crab claws, and crawfish. We'll throw it all on the table so you can dig in!

So come on in and join the crowd. Our beer selection is sure to please, if not amaze you.

We're located one block west of Interstate 35 on world famous 6th Street. Second building on your right. See ya soon!

Editorial Review for The Boiling Pot – by Bill Edmonds

In Short
Step into Cajun country--a hands-on, spicy, tangy, finger-lickin' kind of place. Here waiters cover the tables with butcher paper, place bibs around your neck and supply you with a quintessential wooden mallet. Their famous Cajun combo is dumped right smack on the table. Dig in and wash it down with one of 87 different beers. Substitute that shrimp for some crawfish and you've just ordered the crawfish combo.

I enjoy seafood but this was worst I ever had. First off the service was horrendous. We sat around and waited for the waitress for 20 minutes before finally taking our order. The restaurant was empty, but we still received poor service. We received no drink refills. The sausage was not very good. It was pretty much flavorless. Possibly the worst sausage I have ever had. The shrimp was overcooked and mushy. It was horrible. When I cracked into the crab it smelled horrible. It was obviously bad. We both lost our appetites at that point. Oh and there were flies all over the restaurant. Stay away!

Pros: Location

Cons: Food, Service, Flies, Bad Smelly Crab, Disgusting Shrimp, Flavorless Sausage

A few friends and I were in austin tx for vacay and randomly chose to eat at the boiling pot....BAD DECISION. The shrimp tasted like nothing were not properly cooked and way under-seasoned. The sausage also tasted like absolutly nothing as did the oysters. The waitress was very rude and even gave us dirty looks through the glass window (we were eating outside). We honestly contemplated not paying. The only good part about the meal was the the blue moon we were drinking and the humor of how bad the food actually was. Seriously skip this place. It looks cute from the outside and smells good but i wish i had kept walking. DO NOT GO HERE!!!!!!

Pros: none

Cons: expensive, tasteless, poor quality, gimmicky
