Great Service, Great Food every time.
I'm really puzzled about the negative stories I've seen. I've only visited the North Austin location, but have been there several times in the last few years and have always been very impressed with the quality and taste of the food and the attentive, timely but not pushy service. The atmosphere is upscale swank, the service staff is professional and the food is great. I especially recommend any menu item with the term 'glazed' or 'stuffed', and the sauted vegetables, the lime rice or the loaded potatoes are great sides.
I've been there with small groups and have had my last two medium sized(~15) group birthday dinners there and always had a great time. A good benefit of the North location is they accept dinner reservations whereas the other two Austin locations don't.
Crooks, Theives, Dishonest Staff. I went there for a party and somehow my credit card was charged an additional $50 for a tip on a $112 check--and that was after I tipped the bartender $20 in CASH! I have been speaking with Nathan about this ERROR-giving them the benefit of the doubt and hoping that they would refund my money. I mean a $72 tip on a $112 bill? and it was all DRINKS--no food... Anyway, I have called and called and basically been given the run around. I was initially told this was no problem and it was clearly a mistake and they would speak to the bartender and refund my money. I am now being passed on to Paris (the GM) who acted as if he had NO IDEA what I was referring to when I called. So tonight I called Nathan for an update and as basically told --I've passed the information on and that's all I can do at this point. I will dispute this charge with my credit card company for a refund but feel that they could have handled this situation ALOT better. I won't be going back there ever and wouldn't recommend anyone else either. PS I never rec'd my copy/lost the recpt-so I picked up a duplicate from Nathan earlier this week--I noticed the "signed" copy they have says "Keep One Copy" not MERCHANT COPY & Customer copy. I'm uncertian if someone took my original signed copy & added the tip to the 2nd copy or what BUT it is very possible.
Great food and drinks!. The food here is excellent. I recommend the fajitas, they are exceptional! I also recommend the Cactus Juice, a delicious drink with a hidden kick to it. The enchiladas and their sauces are also extremely good.
Best Restaurant Experience I've Had Thus Far.
I chose the Iron Cactus Downtown Austin location to take my date out for Valentine's Day dinner. I was a little concerned about not being able to be seated promptly since the restaurant does not take 'call-ahead'/reservations, but when I arrived I was absolutely thrilled.
The restaurant looked absolutely beautiful, and we were seated immediately upon arriving! I'm sure that with a special occasion day that's pretty tough to do, but I was glad that I made it in time to receive the greatest service ever.
Our host accommodated our wishes to sit near the front window of the restaurant which was very thoughtful. Our server Paul, was absolutely amazing. He provided quality service, was very respectful and timely, and definitely took care of us in every possible manner.
The menu had great variety, and when the food arrived we were absolutely thrilled. Great looking, quality food with perfect temperature, great spices and flavorings, and amazing taste. We were very much satisfied.
This is the third time I have visited the Iron Cactus Downtown Austin location. I have come here before when the restaurant is very busy with family, with a large group of friends, and also on a two-person dinner date. I have received good service every time, but today was superb! I will recommend this restaurant to anyone and everyone, and I commend Paul, the hosts, and clearly the management and chefs for providing the best restaurant experience I've had thus far.
Definitely go and check this amazing restaurant out!
Terrible for Groups.
Our group of 12 called in to make a reservation and was told that it wouldn't be a problem. But, they do not take reservations, as we found out when we arrived. But, we put down our name and asked how long the wait would be. We were told 30 minutes.
An hour and a half later, we were still not seated. 12 of us just stood around sipping our cocktails and waiting. At one point, there were three empty tables with 4 chairs empty at each. Do the math... 12 seats. Then, a party of 2 was sat at one of the tables for four. The other two tables were left empty. I heard the guy say, "Wow, I can't believe we had to wait 1/2 an hour for a table!". Our group continued to wait. I asked the hostess how much longer it would be. She said, "Oh, I don' t know, about 30 mins?" I responded, "You said that an hour and a half ago!"
We argued with the manager and explained what happened. About 15 minutes later, we were finally seated.
Our service was terrible. No one had napkins or cutlery... or water. Several drinks were spilled before delivered. No one got the right drinks. After a few requests, we received napkins and utensils. But, I asked for water 4 times and finally gave up. My food was terrible and most people didn't eat what was on their plates... because it was either under or overcooked.
This place might be fine for parties of 2-4, but I wouldn't chance it with a bigger group.
Great Atmosphere, Great Food!. This place is located right in the middle of all the happenings, I enjoy the rooftop dining experience a lot as you can see what's going on on the busy 6th St and who's who in the restaurant itself. The food is great, with great variety to choose from in the menu. I ordered a redfish dish that wrapped with crab meat, it was fantastic!
Can't beat the atmosphere at this location, especially outside on the rooftop. Like the Oasis, you don't go to the Iron Cactus for the food. You definitely go there for the ambience though. You can hear live music playing from across the street at the blind pig, great breeze, great weather, just a perfect location. They won't seat you upstairs if you don't plan on ordering food, so we usually just do appetizers and drinks (but make like we're having dinner to the hostess, otherwise she may tell you to sit at the bar versus on the roof patio where the sights are). Really nothing I can recommend for food, but nothing terrible either. Nice place to bring all ages of out of town guests.
coconut margaritas. great for apps and drinks. the rest of the food is so-so but its a good spot to get in the pre-party meal. ambience is fantastic. plan on leslie flashing you through the glass walls that look out onto sixth.
Great Food and Superb Service. Drove in from out of town and found the Iron Cactus. It was a great treat for us. We were seated promply on the roof and the food was great. The service was wonderful our waitress was a young lady named Katie who made our visit delightful. We will recommend the Iron Cactus to everyone.
Dependable Downtown Mexican. Always a favorite! Great place for happy hour, or to eat b4 going to the bars. Great for groups, lots of elbow room & the rooftop patio is great @ night! Food and drinks have always been good.
