Since 1982, this authentic neighborhood bistro has been one of Austin's favorites. Relaxed, comfortable and intimate, Chez Nous offers a
selection of regional French cuisine in a convivial atmosphere.
Located in the heart of downtown Austin, lunch is served four days a week and includes soups, salads, crepes, sandwiches, fish meuniere, steak bearnaise and much more. In addition to an extensive "a la carte" menu, Chez Nous offers a three-course Prix Fixe menu for only $27.50. See the website for a full lunch, dinner, and dessert menu along with a wine list.

If you've been saving up your whole Austin life for a special occasion to visit Chez Nous, do it on Valentine's Day. Seriously: In a restaurant land of cool, modern decor, Chez Nous relishes in year-round twinkly lights and paintings of Rue Montmarte on the walls. Their more-is-more attitude spills over to the menu as well, with all the French goodies here -- escargot, bearnaise-smothered steaks, a classic creme brulee. Oui oui.
We've been coming back here for speical
meals over and over -- for at least twenty years -- and the food is consistently excellent (authentic Paris bistro food) and the service is always super-attentive. Highly recommended.
Try the escargot for an appetiser and the duck for dinner. Don't forget dessert!
Good, but not for special occasions.
First off, their food is pretty much awesome. I recommend it highly. Maybe for a casual date or dinner on a birthday.
However, I hold contention with the labels "romantic" or "intimate" for this locale. The restaurant is so small that the tables are pretty much under the bar. My idea of a romantic date with my wife is not sitting eye level with hungry peoples asses while they stare at you waiting for y'all to finish and leave.
I would give this place 4 or possibly even 5 stars if it wasn't so crowded. The staff was adequate, but the food... oooooh people, let me tell ya. The food is pretty awesome.
In summary, definitely go here at some point, but maybe not to propose or for any anniversary.
Citysearch Editorial Review. Delicate lace curtains at this downtown treasure shield diners from the assault of Sixth Street. On the tables, fresh flowers poke out of anisette bottles, and candles cast an aura of romance. The assiette de charcuterie makes a pleasing array of the daily patés, prosciutto, salami and imported cornichons. The escargots de bourgogne rest in a bath of olive oil with garlic and hearty mushrooms. The tried-and-true French dessert, mousse au chocolat, has a dense, velvety consistency. Chez Nous is a perfectly amorous and a fail-safe date spot with an A+ consistency.
Fantastic Food. I love this place, and I never seem to have a bad experience when I visit. Don't believe the poor reviews of this great restaurant. Be sure to try the set menu, which is such a bargain. The quality of the fish and meat is superb and the chocolate mousse...tres magnifique!!
still great!. I love this place! Still one of Austin's best, great food, service that can't be beat.
Perfect for a Romantic Dinner!!. We just love Chez Nous!! We were there just the other night and had a wonderful time. This is one of our favorites and perfect for a special night. I highly recommend it.
Excellent Country French Food. Chez Nous is small but the staff is very attentive and the food is great. You do not find sweet breads on many menus but here they are wonderfully prepared. The escargot and the duck mousse pate are excellent. We did have to wait a bit but stood at the bar and had wine. Highly recommend.
To chrsbrq,.
Umm... FLAN is offered at almost 100% of restaurants IN FRANCE... it is called creme caramel... .
I hate when people that just don't know any better start opening their mouths just to let nonsense fall out of it...Happy Eating!
Good fixed price menu. Cozy but busy restaurant with limited seating, so expect a wait. Fixed price menu is worth trying especially if you are going there for the first time. Choices of an appetizer, entree, and dessert. We had the tomato basil soup which was on the creamier side... the salmon and steak were cooked to perfection. The chocolate mousse was a little thicker than most, but good chocolately flavor. The crepes we ordered off the fixed menu for an additional $2, and it was a nice touch to end the meal. Although not too quiet inside, still definitely a good place to take a date out.
Not my definition of a French restraunt. When dining at a French restaurant I don't expect plastic check-board table clothes. I don't expect the Chefs to be young kids that probably have no professional culinary experience. I don't expect to see Flan on the menu. My wife ordered a medium steak. It came out so rare it was bleeding. She also ordered "Creme Caramel" - it was overly sweet Flan! I ordered the Pate and it tasted like it came from a can. I ordered Salmon and it tasted decent but not much more. I would not return nor recommend. Find a better place to celebrate an evening or just stay home.
