Historic German pub that withstood prohibition and many rowdy college students..
In Short
Scholz Garten was founded in 1866 by August Scholz, a German immigrant and Confederate veteran who proudly labeled the place with his German heritage. Located just two blocks from the stadium, it's the site of UT football's first victory party, and still home to many rowdy Longhorn fans. It's also home to the Wurst Band, a 33-member brass ensemble that has pumped out German music since 1871.

What happened to the old Scholz?.
This place use to be the crown jewel south of campus, and it has since taken a dive. I recently went back after graduating from UT in '97, and I was surprised to see how a UT institution had been turned into a Denny's. What happened to the old Scholz's?

a big tailgate party.
It's a Longhorn tradition and worth doing at least once. After that, find another place. The UT crowd for football games gets pretty crazy and I personally would rather be somewhere else.
