Editorial Review for Jazz & The Parish – by Citysearch Editors
In Short
Huge, open and friendly, Jazz houses a big bar and a giant dining room; jazzy bands play while you dine. The crowd is mostly couples and tables of friends. Brick walls and a pressed-tin ceiling hold neon beer signs and Mardi Gras decorations. The kitchen serves a Texas version of traditional New Orleans fare. Appetizers include popcorn shrimp, stuffed mushrooms and jambalaya. Entrees feature gumbo, crawfish etouffee and blackened catfish. Turtle cheesecake is a favorite.

Jazz is one of my favorite places in Austin, and THE place to go for great New Orleans food and a fun mardi gras vibe. The stuffed zucchini appetizer is simply one of the most scrumptious things I've ever had - I'll go there just for that! And the bread pudding is to die for - a table of 8 of us ate off one of the huge servings of it! Don't forget to check out the Parish upstairs - great little hidden gem of a live music venue.

What a fun place to eat!! Very high energy Bourbon Street atmosphere. My husband really loves the Chicken A La Mer, but I like the lighter heart-healthy items like Cajun Stir-Fry. A must-see for 6th Street!!
