Good place to hang and enjoy live Jazz music. Great musicians-great live jazz music, just needs improvement on their bathrooms are horrible! Good place to hang around with friends.
Citysearch Editorial Review. Subtly tucked away in a darkened basement on the vivacious Congress and 3rd Street sits this jovial downtown bar and mecca for late-night music enthusiasts. Since 1991, The Elephant Room has been offering its famous sights and sounds nightly to both jazz novices and bass-thumbing, piano-tickling experts. Casual mingling is encouraged inside this unpretentious local hotspot-- and with the assistance of over twenty different draft beer and wine options at your disposal, faking your way through chats about the cultural significance of Louis Armstrong and Freddie Hubbard may not be too daunting. The ambiance, enhanced with candlelit tables and brick walls, provides patrons with the ultimate swanky-meets-“come-as-you-are” Austin experience.…

Mostly we just heard saxophone and sounds from behind the bar... phone ringing, ice being scooped into glasses, bar/wait staff chatter. We mentioned the sound problem to a staff member who was apparently totally disinterested. I am done with the Elephant Room.…
