Star Bar has staying power in W 6th!.
Don't be misled - Star Bar was completely renovated and changed ownership in 2009, so the older reviews aren't accurate!
Star Bar is now a swank, modern gem, with huge cactus outside, and great lighting, tables, and booths inside. It is packed on weekends, but not so much that you can't find a place to hang out. The bartenders are friendly and fast. There are TVs indoors. The outside was recently renovated to feature fake turf, like that used at pro football stadiums, under the horseshoes games. This is a good place to take work colleagues to happy hour, or to take friends after a show or game, or when you want to go out and party. You will find mainly young professionals, in their late 20's to late 40's here, but there is a variety of bar patrons. Many are regulars. There is large indoor area, and front and back patios to accommodate the weather and your mood. I highly recommend - Star Bar has staying power and will be a fixture on W 6th for many years.
Below Average. I've been to the Star Bar a hand full of times. Each time thinking it would be better than the last time but it never happens. I do not like it. I would not recommend it.

In Short
Lower Sixth Street traffic whizzes by while patrons enjoy specialty drinks on the cozy patio. Sophisticated mirrors and lighting create an upscale atmosphere where local 20- and 30-somethings slide into one of the many booths or leather couches. The drinks are expensive, but strong and tasty; bartenders remember regulars' usual orders. The music is supplied by an eclectic group of bartenders, so expect anything to be playing while high-end martinis are sipped.
Poor Service. Star Bar has poor service and the crowd is rude too. Not very comfortable... Lots of fun places around it, though.
Airport bar without the airport. If you like airport bars, you'll love the Star Bar. It's smaller than some airport bars and has that similar vibe, with people always looking like they are on their way somewhere. It gets a bit smokey also, which is annoying.
