What Our Expert Scouts Say

French Legation Museum
March 29, 2013

A tour of the French Legation Museum provides a glimpse into the life of the French ambassador during the Republic of Texas. The grounds are also a beautiful spot for a picnic with mom on Mother's Day, surrounded by beautiful trees, an old carriage house a little bit of Texas history.

Tips for French Legation Museum

November 30, 2006

On a hill overlooking downtown Austin, find a house that time forgot.. In Short
Built in 1841, the Legation is the oldest standing building in Austin. It was originally the location for the first French ambassador to Texas during the early days of the Texas Republic. The museum still resides on its hill in downtown Austin, untouched by time. Now, visitors to the museum can take guided tours of the grounds and carriage house.
