THE BEST.
John & Mike are just super. 5 years ago I took an old beige creaky fan to them. With great enthusiasm they restored the 1890 Westinghouse to its original burnished copper and had it running like a top. They even made a new blade complete with tapering from base to tip - matches perfectly.
Recently when 2 of my Hunters got balky - they contacted Hunter for me and had them replaced. What more could anyone want? Knowledgeable, quality, service, local and great guys.
Austin's finest quality ceiling fans and lighting. My husband and I recently remodeled our home and we were greeted with the finest "mom & pop" type service I've seen in a long time. They're in a great location and not only do they have high quality fan and lighting, they also have a huge collection of beautiful antique fans. Some of them are cool to just go and look at, even if you don't plan on buying one. I never would've thought a ceiling fan could be a true sign of real craftsmanship and art but they certainly are. The manager behind the counter was really nice and the young man helping me load up my fans was surprisingly knowledgeable. The owner even came down from his workshop to show me around the store. I didn't know exactly to how to explain our needs but he figured out exactly what my husband and I were looking for. I'll never buy a ceiling fan from Home Depot or Lowe's again. I can see why they've been there for over thirty years and still going strong. Great business, great people. A+++
Great products. I have been to several specialty lighting stores in Austin, and found what I was looking for here (a unique chandelier and flush-mount ceiling sconce). They have a great selection and they carry some very nice lines. On my first visit there, they let me take home a few of the catalogs so that I could take my time with my selections, which was very helpful. The salespeople are very friendly.
Texas Ceiling Fans.
Great selection but very disappointing service. Upon paying for a remote control fan I learned that the remote wouldn't be in for four or five days. I told them I would pick up the fan when the remote arrived. Eleven days later I still hadn't heard from Texas Ceiling Fans. I called to find out the status on the remote and was told they had no idea when it would arrive but they promised to check and call me back. Three days later I was still waiting for that call back. I called TCF again and was told the remote should arrive any day now. As week three approached I decided to cancel the order. I learned I would only get an in-store credit. I pointed out that the fan had never left the store and they still didn't have any idea when the remote would arrive. I wanted a refund. The salesman said he would explain the circumstances to the owner and call me back about the refund. Another three days passed and still no call. I talked to the salesman who again promised to call the owner and then call me with an answer on the refund. The salesman mentioned however that the owner had just left town and would be gone another week.
As an afterthought I decided to check local Better Business records for Texas Ceiling Fans. Turns out that although Texas Ceiling Fans is not a member, the bureau has handled three complaints on them in the past 36 months.
The remote finally arrived and I picked up the fan, knowing I was never going to get a call back as promised or a refund.
The most telling detail about the entire experience was a statement by the salesman that he had dealt with many similar "and far worse" complaints in the past and the owner does not give refunds. The salesman indicated that although a refund was warranted, the owner was "hard" about such things.
Customer service? Don't look for it here. We like to buy from local businesses, and appreciate the good service. But when we picked out two fans at TCF to go on a screened porch, the salesman neglected to tell us they must be oiled, they are not rated for outdoors, and they require a special junction box. Had we known, we wouldnt have bought them. We took them back (still in boxes) and asked for a refund, and were told in-store credit only. When we protested that we hadnt been given full information about the fans, the salesmans response? I guess you werent listening when I told you. The owners response? Its the customers responsibility to ask questions about the fans. Great customer service, huh? We wish wed bought the fans off the internet or at a home improvement storethe service couldnt have been any worse, and at least we could have gotten our money back.
NOT *Just* Ceiling Fans. I recently had to pick out lighting for my entire house and have been in every lighting store around Austin. I am disappointed in the number of Austin's speciality lighting stores, even more, the service. Anyway, at the last minute, I decided to stop by Texas Ceiling Fans for a particular ceiling fan I was looking for. Well! I would have never known! They should expand their name to Texas Ceiling Fans AND LIGHTING! Great LIGHTING selection, prices are reasonable, fantastic service. Rob's customer service convinced me to cancel (most of :) my list to purchase elsewhere. If they don't have it, they will try to get it. Unless you are a lighting expert yourself, service counts. :) Kudos to TCF!
