What Our Expert Scouts Say

Hut's Hamburgers
November 06, 2012

Hut's is one of those places where I recommend people split a burger, just so they can save room for a dessert of creamy, thick strawberry milkshake (one of the highlights, in my opinion of the menu). That being said, Wednesday is also buy one, get one free burger happy hour night, so you could take my advice and also take a burger home for later. My two favorites? The Ritchie Valens burger, topped with guacamole, jalapenos and copious amounts of grated cheddar, and when I'm feeling fancy (or alternatively, am on my period), Mr. Blue: bleu cheese crumbles, Swiss cheese, and bacon make for unabashed decadence.

Best Burger, Hands Down. I'm not sure what happened to the couple of people who gave bad reviews but we went to Hut's last week after about the dozenth time someone say it's the best. That was no lie. We sat at the bar and asked our waiter what his favorites were. He rattled off 3 numbers and we chose a number 7 to share. A bacon cheeseburger with LTO. We love buffalo meat so chose that for the meat. It was by far the best burger we've ever had. We are both retired chefs and have tried tons of food all over the world. Funny, the reason we were in town was to have what was supposed to be the best Italian food you can get outside of Italy, according to reviews. Not going to say exactly but it starts with a V and is on SoCo. We spent $100 and got the food to go-for our dogs. Then headed to Hut's for perfection. Staff was a lot of fun as well and had a cool talk with a guy at the counter who eats at Hut's everytime he is in town on business.

Feed Your Craving. Ahh, the delicious taste of a Hut's burger. I'm a frequent customer, and love meeting up with friends there. It's cozy, the staff is wonderful, and most importantly, I've always had delicious food!

Best Hamburgers in Austin. My family and I have been to Hut's Hamburgers on numerous occasions and it's always been great. If at any time I received a burger or fries that I wasn't completey satisfied with they have always been very accomadating in getting me a fresh burger or fries to my satisfaction. Their meat is fresh, their fries and onion rings are freshly prepared and the staff is always friendly and accomadting. Great Job Hut's!!

Horrible, thin, dry burgers. Huts might have been a good place back in the day but it's lived on reputation too long and as a result I almost get the feeling the customers are a burden.

The staff was rude the food awful, thin and dry burgers, nasty cold fries and the restaurant was filthy.

There way better places, don't even bother

Disappointed!. I was disappointed in my visit to Hut's Hamburgers Wednesday night 14 July 2010. I was looking forward to the treat having read so many favorable online reviews in advance. Well, I can honestly say McDonald's prepares and delivers a better hamburger. My experience at Hut's clearly did not meet my expectations. Will I make a return visit in the future? No way, thank you very much.

Yum. I'm a huge fan of Frank and Angies, having eaten there for three years because I work downtown. I went to Huts for lunch as a change in pace and I knew they were owned by the same people. I had the Alan Freed burger and these guys know how to do it right! Their homemade hickory sauce it wonderful. I would suggest making this stop for lunch :)

Great Hangout!. This is defiantly one of my all-time favorite places to take people that have never been to Austin before! The Staff know whats going on and always are on top of things, the burgers are awesome and there are endless combos of burgers to make!

Good burger. Went to Hut's with co-workers. I like my burgers simple: no sauces, with lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickle. This means I'm at odds with most people in Austin (but not Ft. Worth). I ordered a double burger and a side of fries and rings. The burger was good (but not great). The fries were burnt, as most places in Austin haven't figured out how to cook fresh cut fries without burning them. Onion rings were nothing to write home about.

Don't order the chicken fried steak!. I have always ordered a hamburger, but yesterday felt like a chicken fried steak. They brought out the plate and it looked like a child's plate. I thought I might have accidentally ordered the child's portion as the chicken fried steak was about the same size and shape as a hamburger patty, just chicken fried. I couldn't believe it since this is Austin Texas and so many restaurants have very large chicken fried steaks. If you want to see waht a real chicken fried steak looks like, go to the City Cafe in Elgin, or to Nutty Brown in Dripping, but don't order it here. Stick to their hamburgers and fries. Huts's should be ashamed to even put it on the menu.
