Fine, but expensive American fare. They do discounted happy hour appetizers from 5-7.
Great Food Poor Service. The food was great, from the Crispy Oysters to the salad and the Crab Cakes. Kudos to the chief great menu!!! However the exprience did not go so well. First we waited in our car for over 5 minutes until the valet came to take our car, then we walk in to wait 10 minutes before the host appears. He then explains to us that it will take some time to get our table ready. The sever was very short and seemed like she did not want to explain the menu. We asked for the special of the house and she said "everything on the menu is good." This was suppose to be a romantic date with my boyfriend and we planned our outing for several weeks in advance. The food was great but the experience was lacking personal attention.…
Over rated. We made a special trip to Austin to eat at Jeffrey's because we've been reading so much about it in the Austin and Texas magazines. We ordered one of everything on the bar menu. First came the oysters with 2 sauces. I tried one of each and passed them along to 2 women eating french fries at the bar. They were mediocre at best.Next the salad, overdressed and under seasoned. Then came the cheese plate which had no flavor but was coated in salt, we couldn't even eat it. The steak tartare had no flavor so we asked for a small side of capers which the chef refused to allow the staff to provide. We cancelled the remaining items and tipped the servers very well, it's not their fault the food is lousy and the chef is pompous.…
Best Restaurant Experience in Years!.
As always, I was greeted warmly as soon as I entered, and taken to our table. Our server was wonderful, non-intrusive, but quick with service. She also provided a description of each dish.
We ate from the Small Plates menu and each item was beautifully presented and full of flavor. The star of this evening was the Pickled Shrimp and Fried Green Tomatoes. The shrimp were perfectly cooked with a pickling that was not about acidity but about flavor.
If there is any criticism to be offered it would be regarding the Beef Short Ribs. Expecting the universal fall-off-the-bone quality, these were rather tough, though the flavor was still excellent.
I asked for several special requests and our server filled each one including a request for extra offerings with our dessert. As usual, the Chocolate Intemperance was superb.
Oh, and this note: I usually find the coffee, even at higher-end restaurants leaves a lot to be desired. Here, the coffee was flavorful and full-bodied.
I will return and in the meantime, I will dream about the Shrimp and Fried Green Tomatoes!…
Gourmet Romance. I went to Jeffrey's on a date. Despite how busy the restaurant was, we still felt an intimate atmosphere. Every small plate and entree sounded delicious, but, alas, we didn't have enough room in our stomachs for everything. We ordered with the five-course tasting menu (short ribs, endive salad, scallops, veal, and chocolate temperance), crab cake, steak tartare, oysters octavia, and red snapper. All of the dishes were quite tasty, but my favorites are the red snapper (hands down), endive salad and short ribs. My boyfriend loves the steak tartare & its wonderfully paired herb salad. We definitely reccomend Jeffrey's for foodies, and especially romantic evenings!…
