Check Out Their Awesome Deck!.
I love the Cedar Door and just realized I had not already written a review. I have never sat inside, but who would? The large outdoor patio is awesome. It is quiet enough to have a conversation, though still busy, especially on weekends.
In line with other reviewers, I agree that the service needs improvement, but is not a great concern of mine. The Mexican martinis are excellent...drinks and atmosphere (and location- walking distance, but just far enough from Sixth Street) easily make up for any other short comings.
Always a good time and good food. Whenever we head to Austin for "fine dining" and our disappointed we redeem the trip by going to the Cedar Door. The staff is always fun and attentive and the food is never a disappontment. The patio is great too.
Nice patio lousy waiter. went here recently for happy hour because we were drawn to their beautiful patio. left disappointed because they weren't offering any happy hour specials, the waiter was rude (gave us attitude about wiping down the table) and not attentive ( they were slow that night but he was always hard to find). the queso
Citysearch Editorial Review. Although it's seen many locations, Cedar Door has been a beloved Austin spot for over 30 years. Now situated on the ever-so energetic 4th Street, it sports an expansive happy-hour deck and a beer garden. Local office workers pour out of the buildings nearby to soak up the conversation and standard pub decor. This self-proclaimed home of the Original Mexican Martini certainly makes its argument well by using the smoothest tequilas. The favorite house shot is the Red Snapper--bourbon-based, with amaretto and cranberry. Recently introduced is Live Band Karaoke and Pint Night, where specials reign and patrons try their hand at showcasing their set of pipes!
The place for Mexican Martinis!.
I love this place. Every time I come to Austin I go to the Cedar Door - their Mexican Martinis are amazing. They're are a little spendy, but totally worth it. So tasty on a hot Texas day! Their food is good too, nothing too fancy but excellent pub grub/bar type food (nachos, burgers, etc.) The drinks and nice outside seating make it all totally worthwhile. Service has always been quick and friendly even when happy-hour busy.
I just wish they were open at lunchtime during the week!
Worst Service Ever. Went to Cedar Door with a friend. We both had a long history going to there. We asked for Nachos which took over an hour to get. When we refused them, the waitress got an attitude and demanded a tip. This is worst service I have ever gotten in my life. The excuse why the food too long? Their kitchen is too small and they didn't have enough staff. We were still expected to pay for our Margaritas, which were too expensive. When I called to talk to the manager, they hung up on me! I used to love going to this place. Unfortunately, they don't seem to care about their customers.
Best Experience in Austin. I went to Cedar Door with a large group of friends for a birthday. I'd been to Cedar Door a few years ago and was impressed by the wonderful service. Our server Nichole? was an absolute joy and was very helpful (definitely try the Mexican martinis). The bar was a little busy and crowded, but the atmosphere is great- very down to earth and fun, not at all pretentious like some places. The food was ok, but there are a lot more pro's than con's. Highly recommended for it's charm and great crowd.!
Popular local bar known for minimal attitude and great drink.

Great porch. Went to the Cedar Door with a group of co-workers and sat on the porch. Fun crowd, good service and excellent drinks. A peer raved about the "mexican martini." Check it out.
Austin's Favorite Spot. The Mexican Martini is the same great recipe as the other location. I've been out of Austin for several years and was so happy to find this place still alive and looking and feeling the same!! Austin has changed so much but the Door has remained the same great neighborhood bar it has been for decades.
