Great Salon! Great Service!

by MJ3000 at Citysearch

I visited the salon for the first time today at the recommendation of a friend, and I'm so glad I did! There staff offer what most other mainstream salons seem to lack: excellent customer service, an immaculately clean salon, a variety of services that encourage healthy hair, and a wealth of knowledge!

To say I was impressed isn't sufficient. Everything about the salon is warm and inviting. You're treated more like a friend, instead of just a 'client. I appreciated that after actually discussing my hair and my needs/goals, recommendations were made, but there was no pressure to take those suggestions. It was all up to me and what I felt I comfortable with. I'm planning to go back in a few weeks for another service and I'm very much looking forward to it!

If you pay a visit, you will not regret it!

Pretentious

by cmargaret at Citysearch

They won't do your wedding hair/makeup if you haven't been a client before. Even if you plan on booking other services with them beforehand, you aren't a "client" unless you've been going there more than 6 months previously. Very pretentious if you ask me.

They lost Cecillia -- a GREAT stylist -- to Propaganda

by Magnets1736 at Citysearch

Great salon, shiny & bustling....BUT my real reason for going was stylist Cecillia Nguyen. She is FANTASTIC, so personable and drama-free, completely understands long layers, and gives me a better quality cut than I have found in a very long time. When she left Jose Luis, they refused to give me her forwarding information -- luckily I found her at Propaganda Hair Group only a few blocks away on West 5th! Went in to visit her today and I'm thrilled she has changed locations...she is happier and I'm crazy about the new space!

READ THIS REVIEW BEFORE YOU GO

by mb1420 at Citysearch

So here's my experience... I first went to JL Salon on Tuesday to get a haircut by Theresa. I am very picky when it comes to haircuts, and she understood exactly what I wanted and then blow dried my hair perfectly. So I came back today for hair color and made the appointment with Theresa again.

When I arrived, I was greeted by Kelsie, Theresa's assistant who is interning at JL Salon and next summer will be qualified to have her own clients. Well, I might as well have scheduled the appointment with Kelsie because she did everything. Washed, dyed, washed again, and blow dried my hair. Now don't get me wrong, Kelsie is very good at what she does, but when I book an appointment with a stylist, and pay the prices of that stylist, I expect to have that stylist do my hair, and not her intern (No offense, Kelsie- you rock!).

So when we were almost finished hair drying, Theresa decided to make an appearance to ask how everything was going. When I told her that I was not very happy with the way she went to do highlights on another client (sitting next to me), when I scheduled an appointment with her, she said that she was sorry but that is the way Jose Luis Salon handles clients when they are busy, they will assign you to an intern for the whole thing. Then she added how she wanted to "apologize for not making it clear earlier".

Now why was she busy if I BOOKED a time slot with her? Or what are appointments for, again?

So word of warning. If you choose to go to this salon and book someone, be ready to see that stylist work on your neighbor's hair while you're assigned to somebody else. Now, word of warning to Jose Luis Salon:

You are in the SERVICE industry, people pay for a service from a specific person and not a product. If you want to be successful in this industry, I would treat your clients with more respect and professionalism and get rid of that "we're busy we'll let our interns take care of you" policy.

Way to lose a client.

LOVE THIS PLACE!!!

by MissyMartin at Citysearch

I moved to Austin from Los Angeles and was very nervous to try a new place. I read all the reviews and decided to give this salon a try. They were great from beginning to end and I am now a faithful client. The salon itself is gorgeous and the staff is very professional. They offer complementary bang trims-which I def. take advantage of. I love, love, love this place and would recommend them in a heartbeat.
