Pure Austin feels like the fancy gym full of intimidating-ly fit people. But it's really just a great gym - great staff, abundant equipment, and clean facilities - full of regular folks trying to stay fit.
This place makes actually WANT to workout.
Pure Austin is a great gym for those of us that hate going inside to workout. I'd rather play outside to stay active, but I wanted gym workouts too. Pure Austin gives me everything I could want.
Both locations are squeaky clean, full of sunlight from the giant windows, and *no big box gym feel*. The equipment is kept up well and has lots of variety.
I love the back space in the downtown gym with a climbing rope, kettle bells of all sizes, medicine balls, speed bag, TRX bands and sooooo much more to keep my workouts functional and entertaining. (This is a great area to watch trainers with their clients to learn some great new moves!)
Up north, they have a climbing wall that for some reason rarely has anyone on it, so you don't have to share it! The private lake in the back is perfect in the warm months- I've gotten hooked on stand up paddleboarding there. I haven't tried the kayaking yet, but I can't wait. I see triathletes of all levels training for open water swimming out there as well. The trail around the lake is beautiful and gets even a non-runner like me to take a few laps after I do some laps in the pool out on the deck.
I love that the classes are all free and the instructors are not ditzy aerobics types, but give you a legit workout without all that annoying 80s/90s cheesiness.
Monthly dues are about $65- more than some gyms, but you get what you pay for.
Pay attention to the contract; it's standard for all the gyms I've been to, but this way you're not surprised by something after you've been a member for awhile. Don't blame the gym because *you* didn't read it. After all, they go over it and it's only one page long.
Cool Gym!. This is not your run-of-the-mill gym... It offers killer classes & up-to-date equipment @ a fair price. The people & the vibe are the epitome of Austin- Cool.
Do not join this gym!. This place *looks* like a good gym and its clean with good equipment. But the management is horrible! I bought a $13 item from them and when I got home, it turned out to be bad. I went back and they refused to take a return because I didn't have the receipt. According to them "I could have bought it somewhere else." Yeah, right, after two years of paying the monthly dues, a middle-aged guy is going to try to scam the place for $13 worth of product. They actually called me a liar to my face! This isn't a community-minded business, it's like Walmart with weights (oh, wait, at Walmart they stand behind their sales). Take your business to a place where they treat you with dignity.
Good gym. Terrible indoor cycling coach.. I've been going to Pure for quite some time. It's good place to workout, but I've come to really dislike a few of the employees who use the place as their personal pick-up bar. One in particular as a portly bald guy who teaches "spin" classes. You can see him wondering around the gym nearly every evening hitting on new female members. It's repulsive and sleazy.
Disgruntled. Be wary of third party billing company! Have seen several complaints by several frustrated former members. You can't even resign from the gym in person. They make you deal with this third party company. Ruined an otherwise good gym experience.
Best fitness gym in Austin!!. Clean, professional and always up to date on the latest equipment and new fitness methods. Everyone there is knowledgeable, helpful and ready to motivate you to work out and reach your potential. Whether you are a professional athlete or a just starting this is the place to get fit and strong. it is also a locally owned and operated gym - if something is wrong you can find out how to fix it through the excellent management staff or the owners who are, more often than not, either in the office or teaching a class. They practice what they preach and know their fitness from top to bottom.
Best Gym Ever. I love Pure Austin! It is the best gym ever. I have been a member for two years now. I normally go to their quarry lake location. Yoga with Haya on Mondays and Pure Sculpt with Tiziana on Thursdays are my absolute favorites!
Great Gym.
I too am surprised at the negativity of some of these reviews. I too went through the signup process, and read over all of the documents carefully, so I wasn't surprised at the 1 year term or anything else. It's all fairly clearly spelled out on the signup sheets.
In any case, I've worked out in several gyms and this one is the best one that I've found hands down in Austin, in terms of ambience, and the type of people that workout there. I totally enjoy working out daily and would recommend this gym to others. In fact, I've signed up several others for it.
great gym!.
I am surprised at the negativity in these reviews. I understand that breaking contracts can be difficult, but that isn't the gym's fault. Read your contract!
The equipment is great! I agree on the loudness, but that too can be motivating, as many folks are in the gym getting solid workouts. I have worked with a personal trainer since October and she is great! She is moving on now, but we will definitely look into a new one. My husban and I are extrememly motivated when we walk into Pure. The staff is extremely friendly and the facility is top notch. We have belonged to gyms in the Boston area, and this one measures up to the best.
Horrible Customer Service.
So I signed up for a 3 month membership, liked it, decided to sign up for 1 year. The sales person, or young, inexperienced greeter said I would get a few things for signing up for 1 year. One of them was 50$ on my key card. After a few weeks, there was nothing on my key card and when I asked a "manager" about it she said that because I signed up before I was ineligible for any of those incentives, even though I still payed the same $150 initiation fee a 1st time member would pay. The girl who signed me up also knew I had been a member before because I kept the same key fob and parking sticker.
After I told the so called manager that I already got the shirt and tote bag and guest passes, which were by the way all free advertisement for them, she said, well we can't ask for those back.
How classless, I've never heard of such horrible customer service. I've given them over $576 in the last 5 months and will have given them well over $1000 when my contract is up. And they can't give me $50 like they said they would when I signed up? Unbelievable!!! They must really be hurting for money, although I don't see how, they are one of the most expensive gyms in Austin.
I decided to talk to another manager and he said it wasn't their policy to give incentives to an existing member, and I thought, but it's your policy to lie.
I had also brought a friend that day and wanted to treat her to something at the smoothie bar, which obviously I couldn't without any money on my key fob. It was totally embarrassing and the so called manager didn't do anything. A simple gesture of buying us a $5 smoothie would have been better than nothing.
I hope the owner reads this and just sees how useless the staff is. Maybe useful to the owner by not owning up to mistakes, but very useless to the clientele. I just moved back to Austin and had higher expectations, but obviously the friendly aspect is nonexistent in some parts.
