A course rich with history, tree-lined fairways and regular golfers..
In Short
Founded in 1928, the Lions Municipal Golf Course is one of the oldest and most historic public courses in the state. The sheer number of those waiting to tee off on this course and
the time it takes to get through it will often mean a backlog of golfers. Tree-lined fairways make for narrow holes, one-third of the course features water hazards and the 403-yard signature hole (No. 16) is a par-4.

Liojns Best in City for Golfing dollar. Contrary to the editor of this page, Lions is the finest Muni in the state, if not the nation. This is a fun and challenging course, why else would the locals flock to Lions as they do. Eat where the locals eat, play where the locals play. There are many fine courses around Ausitn, but most charge much more for about the same value that you get from this little muni. Want a great round of golf, but don't have ~$50 to play? Check out Lions. You will be glad you did. So was Ben Hogan - ask at the club house.…
lions. i have played at lions since i was 10 and have found that it is the most enjoyable and affordable to play. The staff is always so alive with energy and make Lions that much better. The course has a great course superintendant and is always in tip top shape, not matter the season. I have found it better than most private courses in Austin! I would highly recommend people to play Lions municipal because not only is it affordable but has a very forgiving course layout for any golfer.…
18th hole.
This is a very charming muni course and can be challenging, as well.
However, it is anti-climatic approaching and playing the final hole, #18. It may be the ugliest hole on the course and one of the least challenging. This is atypical for most courses... Typically, you're left with a "beauty" -- not the case at Lions.
Why not (at a minimum) plant some nice shrubbery just behind the hole; perhaps a huge bunker on the right side; maybe a small pond just in front of the green; something... anything.
To me, this is all that is lacking to make this a truly wonderful course. So, please give us an 18th that we can treasure instead of the current let-down feeling you get when you finish up a round. Thanks.…
Great Day at old Muny. I had forgotten what a great time I used to have playing old muny. It was a course I used to frequent, but didn't for a while due to the crowds. Well, with all the new courses around, the crowds are, for the most part, gone. I went to Muny on a Saturday recently, got a great video analysis lesson from the pro and had a wonderful round on a classic golf course.…
