Tips for Taco Cabana

cheap late night drunk absorber. I know people knock this place sometimes but if it is late and you need something to soak up all the bar juice then this is the place to be.. maybe not at 2:30am when a million people want it but still good place to get something before heading home.

okay food considering the price - but be careful!. The food is good considering the price. I almost always use the drive-thru so I can't comment on the in-house staff.

The one re-occurring problem we encountered at the drive-thru is that we were often sent off with an incomplete order. All the food we ordered showed up on the receipt, so I knew it wasn't a matter of "perhaps they didn't understand me when they took my order." Almost always our order was missing something. Now, I sit there in my car and check my order to make sure everything is there. If it isn't, you bet I'm knocking on that window 'til I get my complete order.

The one MAJOR problem we encountered at the drive-thru was on a week night around 11pm. After I received my food from the drive-thru attendant I realized I had not been returned my card. I had not pulled my car away from the window yet so I got her attention and nicely asked for my card back, assuming she had just sat it down and forgot to give it back to me. She insisted she had given it to me (with noticeable attitude). I'm not a careless person...my wallet was in my lap ready for me to put my card back in it. I also did not receive a receipt, which is what they usually give you along with your card after they swipe it. I thought perhaps she had dropped it so I got out of my car in the drive-thru lane and checked the area between my car and the window. Nothing. I drove to the parking lot and practically tore my car apart looking for my card. It wasn't there. I'm not a messy person - I'm not absent-minded. It wasn't there. She didn't give it back to me. I went inside (and not with an attitude, I was very civil and patient) and asked the same girl if she could please look one more time. She walked over to the window area and barely glanced around for more than 5 seconds before she glanced back my way and told me it wasn't there, that she gave it back to me. I then asked to speak to a manager. The man who I spoke to only asked her to look again. I watched her look - a blind person could have done a better job looking. I resisted the urge to jump over the counter and look for myself, not mention strangle someone, and walked back to my car where I promptly got on the phone with the bank to cancel my card (and we all know how pleasant dealing with the bank is! lol). I haven't used my card at Taco Cabana since. Cash all the way. I don't trust them!

rude people. I went through the drive thru at approximately 2:30 am. I waited in line for at least 20 minutes, 10 of which were spent right in front of the order speaker. No one ever took my order so I assumed it was broken and I pulled ahead. When I got to the window the lady there told me I could not order and I had to get back in line. If no one took my order after waiting that long, I think anyine would have assumed the same. This woman should not be working there.

Avoid being a walk in. First off the main website for Taco Cabana cannot even spell Manchaca road correctly: it is NOT Manchack (2117 W. Ben White & Manchaca)! With that said, #199 located at Manchaca & Slaughter seems to discriminate. My husband & I went inside (no line, pretty slow) and ordered 1 breakfast taco and 1 breakfast plate yet a Mexican family of 5 ordered 10 minutes AFTER we did & got their 7 tacos & 2 plates long before us. Why? We happen to be white and I believe that was only 1 reason. This is not the first time either. The place was not busy and the food that finally came out was barely warm. On this particular Saturday morning the "acting manager" was caught on her cell phone while making tacos. Once she saw that I noticed her she got off the phone, removed her "sanitary" gloves & replaced them. From then on she made darn sure we were last to be served. And it will be the last time since we will never enter this location again thanks to your "acting manager"! Taco Cabana is "fast" food (ha!) and should not be listed among restaurants. Be aware that employees do not always follow the sanitary rules - its sad that my skin color is also the wrong shade....good luck TC! This store will not get our business ever again.

excellent!. If you are low on budget, but want to dine out with friends or just by yourself, this is a great mexican place. The serving size is huge as well

Why Taco Cabana?. excuse me for saying this, but isn't Taco Cabana like every other Taco Cabana?? I have been to several different ones in Houston & the food is the same...like one chain restaurant to another..so, shouldn't this column be reserved for restaurants that are distinctive, unique, or here's one...local! This is what make columns like this worth reading & going to these particular places..not to a "chain" restaurant......

Taco something maybe .... But what, I'm polite enough not to say. Been there twice and won't be back. The cheese on my nachos was so thin and watery it was translucent and the fajitas were the worst I've ever had. What a way to ruin dinner out for my anniversary! When I want Tex-Mex now, I make it myself.

Cheap Compromise Quality. yeah, it's cheap, but I wouldn't recommend it! heartburn and low quality food. I threw up my first and last Taco Cabana experience! Head to a 99 cent value menu somewhere!

24/7 Mexican Food, how can you complain?. Cheap, 24/7 and an alternative to Jack in the Box. There is nothing not to like about it. 3 bucks for a taco combo or a burrito combo and it comes with chips and queso with the drink included, how can you beat that?
