Worst energy company ever. I have moved to austin and have had nothing but problems with the billing with this company. The agents there are very unfamiluar with the systems and do not have customer service skills. The agents talk over you and will hang up on you. The supervisors do not call back and they lie for their agents. I was offerd a position to work for the company but i turned down the position because of everything that i had gone through with the company i refused to work with a company that robs their customers. I am moving outside of Austin to get away from this company, the gas prices are enough to deal with let alone dealing with a monopolizing company such as Austin Energy.
worst in a music city. yes, after much abscence from being a customer at city of austin-I realized what lousy options this city run utilities and other services they still have. I have lived in other much organized and accessible cities as great as San Diego, Ca and San Francisco, Ca. Even the midwest small towns had various options of rates and accessible affordable programs to assist their clients. And City of Austin is definitely a monopolizing and corrupt attitude like agency I thought would have developed into a better system by now. Sad, welcome back to same "crap".

I HATE THEM. This is the worst service I have ever had. They refused to let me pay my bill because I have a room mate and the bill is under his name. I had his social and the account nubmer but they refused to let me pay because I was not the Account holder because they wanted to "Protect there customer" how in the hell is that protecting the customer if they don't have power in their house. I must have called 10 times and even got hung up on. they refuse to let you talk with someone in charge. I wish i could puch every single one of the customer service reps in the face! Screw Austin Energy I hope yall do go bankrupt!!!!
Only game in town. Billing almost seems calculated to ensure that electric service is disconnected, so that Austin Utilities collects extra fees. When you try to complain about misleading billing statements, the staff do their best to make you feel ignorant. There is no place to complain officially, hence my venting on this website. My Advice... Pay them before they disconnect you. You can't win.
Customer service which isn't "second to none" -- it IS none!.
I worked for the City of Austin for five years, between 1987 and 1992 and I know that if line staff don't want to pass on a message to managers, or managers don't want to be bothered with a customer complaint -- they will simply drop the ball and/or "forget" to pass on a message or "misfile" a complaint so that nothing gets done.
I called the COA Electric Utility on no less than SIX different occasions in May and June, 2009 regarding a disupte with my bill, was "promised" a response each time and each time no response occurred. Their phone tree is absolutely maddening. One must drill at *least* four levels into the tree before one can reach a customer wervice representative who will assure you that "someone will check into your complaint" -- and then nothing will be done.
Today (June 29) when I called, I spent nearly THREE hours with various people at the COA Electric Utility -- being disconnected, being transferred and disconnected, being transferred into ether, being transferred to the wrong department and then re-transferred to another wrong department and then disconnected, being transferred to the wrong department then being transferred to someone who said, "I don't know what to do or who to transfer this to" and finally getting the right person whose only response was, "Well, you used too much electricity last year and the rate is set in stone and nothing can or will be done about your complaint."
The COA Electric Utility represent the worst of the worst in customer service and customer response. It isn't service which is "second to none" -- it IS none.
Never been treated so rudly!!!!!!!!!. I can't even begin to tell you how diappointed and angered I was at the management of this utitliy company.
No power in the brain. Austin Energy is a very frustrating company to work with. I ended up moving away, but they never changed the name on the bill to my roommate. I called them wtice, once a month before and then a week before. I called a week or two later to find out they had no records of me ever calling them. I was forced to cut off the power to avoid additional costs. My ex-roommate was a flake, so I was left with a $200 bill because Austin Energy never changed the service after repeated calls. My choices were taint my credit or pay the bill. The worst part about all this is there is no other option for power. I have a friend who under went the exact same issues with the customer service. My advice: call them and verify, even if you varified already.
