Best value and taste. We have been patrons for nearly 7 years now (cant believe I havent posted a review before!) and have had no complaints; JUST praises and more praises. This is really good food with no frills and very friendly service. The lunch specials are the best way to go! Their portion sizes are HUGE (sometimes, its 2 meals for me). For us, its worth the wait and the drive. Recommend this 100% to everyone.
Tex-Mex home-cooking features enchiladas verdes, spicy beef fajitas, and homemade tortillas at this cafe in the heart of South Austin..
This bare-bones Mexican café focuses on two things--quality and affordability. The enclosed covered patio has been brought indoors and sealed off but it still has the iron bars on it separating out the two dining areas. Habanero is full of happy patrons from all walks of life surrounded by local paintings and black and white photographs hanging on the walls. Stop at the door if you are going in and expecting chairs that match and tables with fancy display pieces because this place is an old-style café with cream colored walls and brown painted accents over the doors. The wait staff is courteous, friendly and treats customers like family members. Diners pay at the door on the way out and seem to return again and again for the quick service and quality ingredients.
Worth the wait!. My friends and I went to Habanero before a concert and were in a slight rush. When we arrived, we had to wait about 15-20 minutes for a table. Ended up missing the first band we wanted to see, but boy, it was worth it! Once seated, the server was attentive and informative. We had two carnivores, one vegan, and one vegetarian and no one had any problems. After scarfing down an embarrassing amount of chips, our food came and it was DELICIOUS. The heat was there but not overwhelming, everything tasted fresh and homemade, not mass-produced. Great prices, better food. I definitely want to go back when I am in the area again.
Authentic Mexican Food. It is so hard to find good Mexican Food in Austin. Most places are much more Tex than Mex resulting in bland food (especially if you have been spoiled with authentic Mexican food your entire life). Habanero is the best food I've tasted in Texas, it tastes homemade. It is family owned and has a very nice ambient. I have gone with different groups, including once with my grandmother, and everyone seems to agree that the food is delicious. The prices are not bad at all either which is good for a college student. We would highly recommend Habanero.
Best Mexican Food in Austin!!. We moved here from Colorado and were desperate to find a good Mexican restaurant. One of my husband's coworkers introduced us to Habanero's. The fajitas and beef enchiladas are delicious!! They serve great beef tacos, in a crispy, not a flour tortilla!!! The service has always been good and the staff is friendly. My only complaint is their hours. They close at 3:00 pm.
Best fajitas in Austin!.
Everytime my boyfriend and I go here, I always get the chicken fajitas. I'm not sure how they are cooked, but it makes the meat SOOO flavorful and SOOOO tender.
They also have the best salsa in town!!! Their queso is pretty good too!
I only wish they had extended hours...!
Best Spicy Fajitas in town!. I love spicy fajitas and Habaneros' serves the best! They mix their fajitas with grilled tomatoes, onion and serrano peppers making them extra hot! Homemade tortillas, rice and beans top off the plates. Their food is delicious and I love their breakfasts!
Good mom and papa restaurant. Food is good and Salsa is excellent. You can also request Habenaro salsa for free. Restaurant is packed after 11:30, so expect a good 20 minutes wait. I had good experience so far except the fajita. The meat was so tough it was even hard to cut it with a knife.
Authentic Mexican in the heart of South Austin. When you pull up to this place, just from the look of it you know the food is gonna be good. This place has some of the most authentic Mexican food I've had in Austin. This is not Tex-Mex. The fajitas are really good, very spicy and best of all pretty darn cheap for fajitas. The best part though has to be the salsa. One of the few salsas in town that actually has a decent amount of habanero in it. It may not seem so hot at first, but after 10 or so chips you start to feel it really kick in! You can buy containers of the salsa to take home too. Overall, this is one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in town. Both very affordable and very tasty.
Overall Best Mexican in Austin. I hesistate to write this review because I don't want Habanero to get too popular. I often make friends I take here sign a NDA. My boyfriend and I go here all the time and are never disappointed. The food is great, and the service is even better. The horchata here is homemade and the best I have ever tasted. We recently tried to expand our horizons and made the horrible mistake of trying another restaurant one sunday afternoon. We were ignored by about 12 waitresses, looked at one another and immediately got up and went to Habanero. We'll never stray again!
