Best Chicken Chow Mein in Austin!!. This lovely little chinese restaurant may not have a huge fancy bar or super elegant furnishings-but what is does have is the chinese food you crave late at night that just hits the spot. It is the familiar and it is freshly prepared and the portions are huge. Prices for lunch are outrageous-$5.75 will get you choice of soup (my favorite is the egg drop-to die for-seriously-)your entree, egg roll, wontons and rice-you can't eat at a fast food restaurant for that price unless you go on the dollar menu. Mrs. Wu is lovely and it is about 5 minutes from St. Edward's University-so it's pretty near to downtown. Remember-if trendy is what you are looking for-you won't find it here, but if you want consistently good chinese food in a friendly, clean atmosphere-you will not be disappointed with the Bamboo Garden!

Down home Texas, frendly, With GREAT food!. Mrs Wu & Is such a sweet lady, and all of the staff are so great at Bamboo Garden.

They serve one dish after another all hot and freshly prepared, its obvious that it has not been setting on a steam table wating for a customer.

A well laid out menu .We all just want to return to try everything on the menu,

I think 33 years of doing something right is why Bamboo Garden is Soooo Good !!

they have food. I went to Bamboo Garden to order carry out. I ordered fried rice and an egg roll. I requested extra soy and sweet and sour sauce. When I opened the bag there was no egg roll, only 2 packets of soy sauce and one packet of sweet and sour sauce. I do not think I was charged for the missing items, but they did not seem to have listened to my order. The fried rice was a very large portion, not too greasy, good amount of individual ingredients, but was kinda tasteless. There just was not any flavor that made it stand out above average. The service was fast (there were only four to six people in the place) and not unpleasant. I would give them one more shot, but I always order fried rice first to test a new place, and they did not really impress with the simplest of basic asian staples.

If you like food made by exploited workers then this is the place for you.... Bamboo Garden is a terrible place to eat. They exploit their workers. They only pay their HispanicI kitchen workers $5/hr (well below minimum wage) and they don't pay over time or give them breaks. Furthermore, they completely mistreat them by constantly yelling at them. I would encourage anyone who cares about labor rights to stay away from this place.

We LOVE this place. We've been going to Bamboo Garden for years. I haven't found a place for Chinese that I like any better. The menu is huge so they'll have whatever you want . If you don't see it, I'm sure they'd make it. We don't go all that often, but the staff knows us and the service is always, always good. It's not the most elegant of atmospheres, but there is a lot of friendliess to it and we'll always go back.

Great place to go on a budget. I've only been to this restaurant one time which was today. The reason I gave this restaurant 3 stars is because it is average. The food is average but it is good especially if your hungry because the portions are big. I ordered General Tso chicken which wasn't on the lunch menu but they happily made it for me. The service is excellent. The staff was very friendly and very attentative. The parking wasn't all that great but the lot is big so actually finding a spot isn't a issue. The restaurant is a great place to try and the staff actually get 5 stars from me.

Friendly place, great food.. I love Chinese food! This is my favorite low-key, last minute dinner decision kind of place. The service is extremely friendly. The owner, Mama Wu, always makes her way around the restaurant to make sure your dining experience is perfect. The cooks are always willing to make adjustments however you like. I suggest sesame chicken with jalapenos, orange peel beef, crab rangoon(made with real crab, btw), and hot and sour soup. We always ask for all white meat chicken and they are happy to oblige. My boyfriend is a very picky eater and they even make a special plate just for him.

Average. I don't get what all the hype was about. We ordered delivery and it was ok. It was your average, mediocre Chinese food. We're still on the lookout for some fantastic Chinese in Austin.

This friendly Chinese spot is an Austin institution.. In Short
The family-run establishment makes you feel right at home once you walk in the door. The menu is conveniently split up according to category. Tofu has a section, followed by beef, pork, lamb--even more impressive, vegetarian dinners almost outnumber the poultry selections. The eggplant comes with hot garlic sauce, chicken and corn soup or steamed fish. And if you like it extra hot and spicy, the cook is happy to crank up the heat.
