In Short
Sandy's neon custard cone with the birdie on top has been a fixture along Barton Springs for several decades. There's always a line in the drive-through and folks settle at picnic tables scattered around the parking lot. Classic burgers, fries and famous frozen custard are the draw. A cheeseburger offers various combinations of double meat, double cheese, double bun.

I've been going to Sandy's every Friday with my friends for lunch since August. It is in a sense, our weekly Hajj. I usually get a double burger, fries, and water for $6.15, but they did something so it comes out to $6.47 now, and that bothers me because I always pay in exact change. Oh well, such is life. I don't care how cheap or greasy the burgers are. They. Taste. Good. If you're in the mood for a fatty burger, these puppies can satisfy that craving for fat your brain is having, and it will feel awesome. Really, they're just straight up tasty burgers. More than once have I quoted Samuel L. Jackson from Pulp Fiction in that, "This IS a tasty burger!" I also like how the fry to burger ratio is in perfect sync. Some places like Huts give you a truckload of fries with a tiny burger, or vice versa. Not at Sandy's. You get one size of fry which is exactly enough to keep you satisfied. I don't usually get sodas just because I don't like high fructose corn syrup, but you can get an enormous soda for just 2 bucks and add cherry or vanilla flavor shots at no extra charge. I can't attest much to the ice cream, malts, or shakes. I had a malt once and it tasted fine to me. Nothing special, but it was still tasty and cheap. Now yes, it is true that the lady is fairly grumpy. Since I'm a regular I think she may have warmed up to me a little bit, but it really wouldn't hurt her to be friendlier, especially since the girl who actually hands you the food is extremely pleasant. It's not Central Market or Whole Foods. You're not going to get a wholesome meal at Sandy's. You're going to get a tasty burger at a reasonable price and enjoy it.

Well, I didn't go there to be entertained by the ol'lady behind the counter but she did not give me any trouble . I got the double cheese combo and ordered the burger all the way. It was an excellent example of the classic greasy cheese burger. Fries were subpar and the tea I got was good and sweet tea. Once I placed my order I had it in about 3 to 5 minutes. I would go back.

I know everyone is complaining about the service, but the food makes it worth it! The hamburgers are always hot and juicy and the milk shakes are to die for! The parking and drive-thru are a little crazy....but its to be expected since Sandy's is located in such a small area. They have picnic tables in the back, so you can sit and enjoy your meal without feeling rushed.
