really not that great.... We stopped at Sandy's to cure a milkshake craving and my fiance got a chocolate malt and I got a vanilla. The two flavors were nearly indistinguishable from one another. And they gave us thin straws that were impossible to s*ck the milkshake through. And the lady who took our money and gave us the milkshakes had a scowl on, not very friendly at all. Maybe on any other day with any other food item they're great but... for just a milkshake... not so great.
Great thursday saturday specials. Great cheap fast food. barton springs and custard what more could you want to call it summer? Beware of the long lunch lines on special days!!!
Barton Springs institution serves delicious, cheap burgers..
In Short
Sandy's neon custard cone with the birdie on top has been a fixture along Barton Springs for several decades. There's always a line in the drive-through and folks settle at picnic tables scattered around the parking lot. Classic burgers, fries and famous frozen custard are the draw. A cheeseburger offers various combinations of double meat, double cheese, double bun.
Sandy's or Short Stop?. Sandy's is very good, but let's everyone just chill out a little with the praise pertaining to it being "one of a kind" and "Austiny". Sandy's is really a Short Stop with a different outside. You'll notice the menus are exactly the same and the specials are the same, just different days. I will say though that the food is good, just like Short Stop's food is good.
User review by billrobishaw. reminds me of another era when gas was cheap, and I mean under 50 cents, that's right not under 2 dollars.
Dallas to Austin. My daughter lives in Austin now, I live in Dallas...one of my trips down to visit I saw that sign FROZEN CUSTARD! I thought I had died and gone to heaven...I make a special trip to Sandy's for Frozen Custard every chance I get when down in Austin. The only time I could ever get frozen custard was at the State Fair of Texas when I was a kid. Well...that has been some time ago and the fair does not offer this delicacy any longer. I highly recommend trying one of these frozen confections after a great burger. J Smith
I heart Sandy's.
I enjoy going to Sandy's for the great burgers and frozen custard!
I tried to make a ritual of going every Sunday but unfortunatly I moved south and am a little further away to make the trip. What can I say? I am a lazy Austinite! But, I really recommend Sandy's, I love that place!
Cheap Burgers. Best place for burgers in Austin. Cheap prices and perfect location. Just seconds away from Zilker Park.
Tops!!. Best drive through food and service! Sandy's has been around forever and the food is still as wonderful as I remember as a girl! Great food for on the go! Great cones and shakes!
Excellent Old Time Burger Joint. I have been to Sandy's many times and have always gotten good food and fast service, especially since there is a line everytime I go. Great cones!
