You might recognize Guero's in the opening sequence of Quentin Tarantino's Death Proof. This famous South Congress eatery was featured heavily in the beginning of the film before the main characters moved over to the delightful Texas Chili Parlor. Austinites have a love-hate relationship with this restaurant; some say the food is mediocre, but the location and convenience of bringing out-of-towners can't be beat. If you think their Mexican cuisine is subpar, hit their patio for some live music and delicious top-shelf margaritas.

Looking to grab a good margarita and see a celebrity at the same time? Gueros is your spot then. And try the fish tacos while you're at it, will ya?

The SoCo Tex-Mex joint famous for celeb sightings, Guero's is also well-known for their extensive margarita menu. They don't go crazy with fruity flavor combos here, but spice up their 17 margarita offerings with various tequilas, ranging from sharp blancos (aged the least) to smooth anejos (aged the most). My favorite is the El Magnifico, made with just three ingredients -- Herradura Anejo being one of them.
Chicken Alambres. Strong and tasty margaritas, fantastic salsa bar, great S. Congress location, and nature's most perfect food: chicken alambres. Guero's is a required stop for any visiting ex-Austinite; I only wish teleportation really existed. The only negative is that the vegetarian fare is less than stellar...but if you're a carnivore you'll be too busy eating to care.
quite tasty. Famous people go here. And, you can too. The menu is great and the servers are friendly. A few times, the margaritas have been too sweet (too much mix?). Ask for a floater when this happens.
salsa!. The salsa selection alone is worth a trip to Guero's! The servers bring hot chips and three kinds of salsa to your table. You can even help yourself to more at the salsa bar. The tacos el pastor are wonderful.
Good black bean tamales. I find the drink and food prices a little high, but the happy hour black bean tamales are very good. The margaritas are well made, as is the food. The staff is very kind and helpful.
