My old home that hold fond memories in my heart.. I went to the 40 in the early 90's- I remember when they moved to where they are today. George, Lenny, John and Tad, Kevin, DC, Eddie, Dawn, Catfish, Big John, and all the rest I can picture faces of but can't put name to right now- Talk about missing people- Man- it has been years andthis ole gal has gone back to Nebraska. We learned the South 40 freeze- back when line dancing was only for women who weren't asked to dance to a belly rubbin song. It was all country all of the time- and it was so nice to belly rub with the regulars, and know that I was bein looked after by the management and all the employees. You guys were like family.
This is a smaller version of the newer-style country dance clubs..
In Short
Drinking and dancing to predominantly Top 40, DJ-spun country music beneath disco lights is what is to be expected at this South Austin watering hole. There are four pool tables that become the centerpiece of weekly tournaments on Wednesdays and Thursdays. On Sundays the club offers free dance lessons. While there is no kitchen, the establishment does serve up a free buffet from 5pm-8pm on Fridays; but the drink specials are available every night.
The Place for a mature crowd. The 40 is my second home. The staff is very friendly as well as the patrons. The regulars are always nice to new comers. Thur is the only crowded night because of the drink specials. If your looking for room to dance, Fri and Sat are the nights to be there. It's the only country dance hall in Austin that isn't filled with kids. It is an over 30 crowd. The 40 is a great cross between a dance hall and a road house. Hope to see y'all there!
Miss My friends at The 40. I just want to say that the South 40 was the place Id go to put a smile on my face. Everyone there Staff & locals always knew how to welcome you with hugs & Grand Manier. Thanks Tanna, Scotty, John, Amanda for all your years of friendship. I miss you dearly. There will never be another 40 anywhere & no place comes close to the way you all made me feel!
HATS OFF TO THE NEW OWNERS. Have been a loyal south fory patron for 13 yrs. my hats off to the new owners. glad to see the place gets some badly need things done, the painting of the restrooms and the new torlet paper holders. now could i suggest that you put a air freshner in the ladies room, and have some things like the wet t-shirt contest or the karokee to come back, thinkgs that draw the people in. Oh yea please dont play so much rap music, the reason i say that the people in my age group like to come and dance to the country music, but after a while the rap music gets old. thanks for takeing over the forty hope to see some good changes. thanks for not closing down. long time patron
Home sweet Home.
The South 40 used to be my home away from home. I had THE group that I ran around with and we had some great times there. If the bar was open you'd probably see my face out on the dance floor. Now, I'm living hundreds of miles away and can't wait to get back home. I haven't been to a friendlier place on earth. So, all y'all, who may still be hangin' out at "The 40" , I hope to see y'all soon. I'll be back home around spring 2003. See ya!!!!!!!!! I love my "Friends in Low Places" lol
