What People Are Saying About Continental Club

In Short – This rare Austin relic opened in 1957 as a supper club featuring groups such as Glenn Miller. Continental's retro tone is present today with its classic neon sign and frequent vintage car-driving customers. Since the 1970s, it's been the casual setting for some great music: country, blues, rockabilly and singer-songwriters. Annual events include Elvis' birthday party. Many clubgoers--including 20-something tattooed cowgirls--use the back room for an occasional breath of air or a game of pool.
Editor's Tips
- The Extras:
- The club opened a Houston location in 2000. The site was a general store in the 1920s. It looks the same, but it's twice as big as the original.
- Happy Hour:
- Toni Price's famous Tuesday Happy Hippy Hours are free blues-torch shows that always attract lines of patrons out the door.
Best Live Music 7 Nights a Week

No question, this is the best spot to see a great band and sip on a stiff drink.
I've been here a good fifteen or twenty times and have never had a bad experience. The music is usually guitar based blues, rock, or that Americana-country genre that flies anywhere in Austin. I've never seen a bad performance. The crowd is diverse and respectful.
Only problems is that there are regularly cover charges, no food, and drinks are a bit more expensive than average in the area. But hey-- you pay for what you get, and the experience you get at the Continental Club is worth it.
- Pros: Never a bad band
- Cons: Sometimes a Cover

I go there once in a while, and it is always a fun memorable time. I have seen John Cusack, Luke Wilson and a few other movie stars along with all our local ones Mike Judge, R.Rodriguez, M.Maconehey ect...
- Pros: Great Music, Hot Waitresses and good service
- Cons: a little pricey
A Happening

The Continental Club is the BEST club in Austin. If you never made it to the Armadillo World Headquarters, check out Toni's Hippie Hour on Tuesday nights. The Continental is the ONLY place in town where you can still get a feel for what the Armadillo World Headquarters was like--this is the magic of Toni's Hippie Hour.
The Continental Clus is the BEST club in town, that's all there is to it. From Tuesday's with Toni to the Blues Specialists on Fridays to the ELVIS Shows, Buck Owens Bash, and so on and so on, you can't go wrong. The folks there are great, the atmosphere is great, and the crowds are great. Peanuts at happy hour. And don't forget all the Classic Cars you'll see!!!
