What People Are Saying About Big Bertha's Bargain Basement

In Short – Equal parts rumpus room and retail shop, a good deal of the store's theatrical atmosphere is the result of a connection at Paramount Studios and a taste for quirky Austin-area designers. Beyond a very healthy selection of vintage surprises, there's new stuff to be had--mostly in the way of reproduction men's suits and cyber-lounge wear. Boas, elbow length gloves, costume jewelry, accessories and shoes abound--but are not for the fashionably faint of heart.
Vintage for the discriminating

Bertha's is the kind of vintage store I thought I'd never find in Austin. There are lovely, high quality items from all eras. There are a number of designer items. The owner is an absolute doll--so kind and knowledgeable! I came away with a bevy of fabulous silk scarves for spring (from the 60's). Some of the stock is changed out seasonally. You definitely won't find any nasty Goodwill-type crocheted acrylic sweaters here.
- Pros: Selection, Customer service, Quality
- Cons: Slightly expensive
