view & uploadpathetic. I'm looking to purchase my first road bike and went to bicycle sports shop to inquire about getting fitted for a bike... The sales guy was aloof, unhelpful, and made me feel like a waste of his time- he didn't fit me for a bike or explain how I could get it done, didn't answer my questions, and I was out of there within 2 minutes!!! I am a serious customer who is ready to purchase a bike and felt completely blown off.. Went down the road to Jack & Adam's which was a breath of fresh air- they took time to talk to me, fit me, and answer questions - guess where my money is going?
Didn't mean to bother. not everyone has swallowed the kool aid. Easy up people
Poor Service. I wanted to schedule a bicycle fitting. They were unwilling to do it on the weekend or after 5 pm. It's absurd to only offer this service when most people are at work. What am I supposed to do, take the day off?
Don't Waste Your Time.
Don't waste your time on this wretched place. Simply awful. My friend and I took my bike in because the gear shift is all messed up and it needs a new chain ring. Sorry, I don't have a lot of money and don't own a pretentious/expensive bike. I own a really cheap one that gets me around. My friend warned me that this place has a rep for being awful, but it's close to my apt, which is why we went.
It was a Friday afternoon and they were busy, so we waited, no problem, it happens. The service techs were all with customers. A new customer walked in with his bike wheel, apparently the "right" brand and one of the techs went over right away to help him. The customer turned to me and said, I think he was first. The tech guy looked at me and said, what can I help you with? I told him I needed a chain ring, etc. He glanced at my cheap Schwinn bike, looked like he was disgusted by it, rolled his eyes and said, "okay, I'll be with you in a minute." He then proceeded to help the customer who walked in AFTER I did. At this point, my friend and I walked out. We then drove to Ozone Bikes on Guadalupe and they were very friendly and helpful, took our bikes right away and gave us zero attitude. The manager there was super friendly and chatted up my friend when it turned out they had studied the same thing at U.T. If you are a cooler than thou type who thinks the sun rises from your behind, Bicycle Sport Shop is the place for you. If you are a normal Austin person who is friendly, talkative and enjoys being treated decently, I highly recommend Ozone Bikes.
One of my favorite businesses in Austin.
There are few companies that understand the value of a happy customer. BSS not only gets it, but they truly set the standard for it.
Every person there from the minute that you walk into the door until you are loaded up and ready to go ensures that they have met your expectations and you leave with a smile. They truly share your joy in the sport of cycling.
It doesn't matter if it's your first road bike or a high end time trial or mountain bike, they make sure it's working right and keeps you pedaling and they do it fast.
New to the sport, think its time for an upgrade, or you think that no garage can have too many bikes check these guys out. They have something for everyone.
I'm on my 10th BSS bike for my family and I wouldn't consider buying another one anywhere else.
Ed Cen & Rick Sloan Are Awesome. Rick is the salesman that helped us and he wasn't a cheesy salesperson at all. He was cool and informative but most importantly honest. Ed is fixing bikes because he's badass at it but more importantly, you can tell that fixing bikes brings him joy. These guys are kind and honest. This is rare to find in the very pretentious world of bikes.
Two wheels and a whole lot of experience..
In Short
From its two Austin locations, Bicycle Sport Shop has been spreading the two-wheeled gospel since 1984. The stores--which are known for their experienced staff--offer bicycle sales and service for cyclists, mountain bikers and commuters. Competitive cyclists appreciate Bicycle Sport Shop's efforts at promoting cycling races and tours, and sponsoring local racing teams. Aside from bikes, there are clothing and accessories by dozens of dealers, including Trek, Specialized, Shimano and Lemond.
helpful, but sometimes pretentious. BSS did a great job fitting me on a bike i purchased elsewhere. Later i went back and purchased tires, and the techs and saleswoman made helpful recommendations. Another time though, a tech guy there basically said my bike sucked and was a little too big for me etc. As if i didn't know the downsides firsthand. It really turned me off. Because not everyone can buy a beautiful $2000+ bike, or even a $500 one. Despite my otherwise good experiences, this one turned me off.
Outstanding Service Dept..
Few bicycle shops offer prompt repairs and service, others just plain drag their heels, and I've been to dozens of shops around Texas. After being soured by the treatment one employee gave me at my previous bike shop (and 3 day wait just to true a wheel) I took my business to BSS.
The service people were extremely friendly, and twice performed the work I needed immediately. Even for a relatively involved installation I was in and out under twenty minutes and for a much lower price than I expected. I'm very impressed with this store, and recommend it completely. Their prices are also very competitive. Though you might be able to find the same part slightly cheaper from a mass wholesaler, they certainly can't take care of you after the purchase like BSS will. It is definitely my new LBS (bike-nerd speak for local bike shop).
