Great experience / anyone new read!!

For those that don't care and want it short: exceptional skills (my work was by Royce and it's awesome and watched Bart do some truly amazing back work), they were the coolest guys to work with on a walk in no less (however I have learned we were extremely lucky that he was free so call or stop in ahead if possible otherwise he is worth the wait). They would rather do custom work even on small stuff so you truly get something you're proud of!

For new to tattoo and any of you crazy people who just like reading this sh*t keep reading..

In Austin from Detroit (so not a local) and I find myself needing all of a sudden to get some art. Now I am 36 and no ink. My wife has them, all my close friends have them. I want them (not one but many) but always way over thought it. Thought it had to be epic and dispense the wisdom of the ages with just one pic or a couple letters and could never come up with "the One" for my first. I tried about a half dozen different shops and it was always the same thing, no respect or welcome for someone as square or clean as I must have looked, that or I'm more of an a$$hole than I thought. Within a couple half ass questions and not listening to answers I knew I wouldn't have work done and leave disappointed and now with a bit of a complex. Enter Royce from Southside Tattoos in Austin Texas. Me and a buddy walked in ( him in damn near the same situation as me) more determined than ever and met Royce and Bart. I gave him the worst answers a poor artist could get when asked what I wanted, hell I didn't even know what I wanted and am not artistic enough to explain well. He never gave the feeling that I wasn't worth his full attention (and even stayed late to finish work for me and my buddy, sorry Mrs. Royce ;) and with the vaguest direction nailed it. He did exactly what I wanted without me knowing it till I saw it! Tell me how freakin cool that is! I could right a book and damn near have but the long and short is while he won't get all my work, he will get alot And every referral I can send, coax, con, or entice his way. He is a serious artist that's also one of the coolest people in Texas! Hey Royce you ever get a chance to ply your trade in the D please do, we could use you here!

Great Experience

So I was planning to get my first tattoo and, being a perfectionist and having a needle phobia.... I needed the right type of customer service. After reading all the reviews on here and emailing Bart, I decided this was the place. All the reviews are right - these guys are awesome. Bart instantly made me feel really comfortable and did everything perfectly. While I imagined this being a totally traumatic experience, the pain is realllllly not bad (I got a 2x2 inch design on the back of my upper arm)...it feels like kind of like a cat scratching you. I barely imagined myself getting one tattoo, and now I'm already thinking of others. If you're looking for the best place - go to Southside and call Bart! I'll definitely be back soon.

Great from start to finish!

I have not had any of my tattoos done since I've lived here in Austin...so when I started getting the itch to get another one, I turned to sites like this and cityserch to read reviews on local shops. Southside had the best reviews by far, so that's how it all began.

I stopped by the shop on Monday to try and schedule a time to get in. I do suggest going in well in advance...I probably didn't do that, sicne I wanted to try to get in in the next few days. I do understand that they take walk ins though, so certainly consider that if you really want to get it done right away. Continuing on, Jack greeted me and was very helpful. He tried to get me in within a few days, but he was pretty booked up and so he recommended Royce. I called back the next day and Royce took my info, called me back and got me in that same day on Tuesday.

I can't say enough GREAT things about Royce. I thought I knew what I wanted, but took his advice about how it would look on my wrist and decided to change it. He spent an hour with me going over different options trying to incorporate the meaning I wanted in my tattoo. In the end, I decided to go with some text in a font that I brought in. He was completely understanding in what I wanted and patient through the whole process.

Then the tattoo, I got it on my wrist--which most people say is the msot painful. Honestly, he had such a gentle hand that it really didn't hurt and in 10 minutes it was over. It looks GREAT! Thanks so much Royce.

Ask for Royce! And don't think twice about Southside Tattoos!

Best Tattoo Shop in Austin

Best Tattoo shop in Austin Texas. Jack did my work and I'm quite satisfied. My tattoo was a very detailed design of fine black lines. After stopping in and leaving my info and some design description, Jack, whom I spoke with, contacted me regarding my tattoo. Jack and I altered the design and stenciled it three different times. Once I was satisfied he put the ink on me. I'm appreciative of his patience throughout the long design refinement process. He added a lot of great input as well. I was also real pleased with Jack's same day response to several emails. Southside’s work and reputation are absolutely legitimate.

GREAT place for CUSTOM work!

I have gotten 2 tattoos by Jack now and i love them!! The colors he used are still bright and beautiful almost a year later and not only did he do a wonderful job with the tattoo itself, but he is a great person, he is very patient and makes sure it is exactly what you want no matter how long it takes. He understands that a tattoo is permanent and will do really whatever you want - like reapply the stencil a dozen times until it is what and where you like ;) If it is your first - second - or 100th tattoo...you haven't had the experience you should have when getting one till you get one by JACK!! The shop itself is small and intimate - VERY clean and well kept. It makes you feel very comfortable! And there is parking in from of the building and all along the street that runs right behind it - easy to get too and there is some fun stuff to do around it if you have to wait a little bit :) Everyone else that works there is really pretty nice to - they don't give off the arrogant "If your not here to spend bunches of money im going to ignore you" attitude. They all care whether your tattoo is a tiny heart on your ring finger or huge side piece... GREAT VIBES from this place! I recommend this place to ANYONE and EVERYONE that asks or doesn't asks...if you want real body 'art' this is place to go! I have seen many of the artists work and unlike most places that graggggg out the process so they can charge you for more hours - I have NEVER seen ANY artist at Southside Tattoo do that. You are in and out and the prices are VERY FAIR! You get wayyy more than you pay for

• Pros: BEST shop, BEST artists - can't go wrong!
• Cons: Not enough hours in a day to get tattooed by them!
