Chris Gunn (co-owner of Southside Tattoo) commands a long waiting list, but it's seriously worth it. Afterwards, you can go have a drink at Continental Club and raise a glass to your new ink!
Awesome Shop!. I recently had a few sessions working on my new tattoo with Bart Willis at Southside Tattoo. I was thoroughly impressed with this shop and the people working there. Bart was very thorough in his discovery process to make sure that the piece that he custom designed for me was going to be something that I was happy with for the rest of my life. The shop is clean and the people are nice. Very welcoming and good vibe. I would recommend this shop to anyone, whether you're looking for your first tattoo, or just new to the area. These guys are more interested in the person than just getting someone in the chair. They will consult you on what you want and make sure you are happy with the final outcome. I will be going back soon for more...
Great Place. I am new to the area and I wanted to cover an old tattoo and they did an excellent job! Any new tattoos I get will be from them.
Ask for Royce. My sister and I wanted to get a special sister's tattoo..We weren't exactly sure what we wanted and Royce was so helpful. He took the time to draw up several designs until we found the perfect one. He made our visit really special and he put us totally at ease. He was very funny too! I would highly recommend Royce and Southside tattoo for your next or first tat. You will not be disappointed and I will for sure be going back for my future work.
Great Tattoo Shop. This was my first tattoo and I wanted to find an artist that I really felt comfortable with. After reading numerous reviews, I decided to contact Bart at Southside Tattoo. I really enjoyed talking to Bart and working with him on a cool cross design. The whole experience from design to skin was first class. Cool tattoo, very little discomfort, great ink, and great conversation. I would highly recommend Bart and Southside Tattoo.
Dedicated atrtists and friendly shop!.
I recently moved to Austin and began searching out a shop to get my next piece done at. I only have two and wanted the next one to be over the top. Southside came up over and over again when I'd stop nicely-inked folks around town and ask where they got their work.
This is one of the first shops I've been into where EVERYone in their is cool. There's no on scowling at your non-sleeved out arms asking you where all your ink is. The guys in there are friendly, receptive and honest with their opinions about what will and will not work. Between myself, my wife and three friends, we've gotten five tattoos by three artists and all have turned out great.
This is not some flash shop, so it would be best to stop in and talk to the guys. There is some flash and various artwork on the wall for inspiration but this places thrives on the custom jobs. Some of them may be booked months in advance due to demand for such masterful work, but there's likely someone on any given day that can take walk-ins.
And it should go without saying, but the shop is clean. You will be leaving with a nice new tat, not scabies :)
(And without detracting from any other artist, I've got to recommend the only one I've personally seen - Michael Norris - the rest of the folks in there are all highly talented, but he just HOOKED ME UP with the start to a great piece)
EXCELLENT SHOP!
Best Shop In Texas. HANDS DOWN!!!. Southside has a great team of artists assembled and they ALL produce some amazing work. I had mine done by royce, and he did a fantastic job. he took my drawings and made somethin 10x better than what i had. No question about it...Southside Tattoo is the hot-spot and i wont consider going anywhere else for my next tattoos.
FAN-F*#@ING-TASTIC. Southside is AWESOME! In specific, Royce is the fattest, sickist, most ridiculously talented artist. The half-sleeve he designed and drew on my arm is about 2 million times more beautiful and artistic and completely incredible than I had ever imagined. I have received numerous enthusiastic compliments from everyone, including those "non-tattoo types". (not that compliments from others really matter). Anyway, I highly recommend Royce to anyone interested in a unique and artistic piece. Also, he is very cool and easy to sit and b.s. with during the process. My first session lasted abou 3 hours, and he was totally cool the whole time. I go back in 2 days to get the color done, and I cannot wait to see the final product! I know it will be amazing.
Love my tatts. All the reviews are right! I went and got two separate tattoos yesterday and Jack was very helpful. He made sure the tattoo design was something I really wanted, by doing my drawing over and over until it was to the point where I liked it. You can tell these people really care about their clients, and I will be back for all my future tattoos.
Extremely talented artists. The one thing I knew I wanted to do when visiting my brother in Austin was to get my first tattoo. Although I have wanted one for a long time, I didn't have a specific idea of what I wanted. I knew I wanted it more on the tribal side and for it to mean something to me but ultimately I wanted a piece of art. My brother said that South Side was the place to go. After looking at the website, Bart was my artist with his cool Pacific Fusion tattoos. Bart was able to channel my vague interests and comments into a vision for an awesome tattoo. He created a piece that was so much more beautiful than I could have hoped. I am totally in love with my tattoo! Now I understand why people want to go back for more.
Best tattoo shop in Austin.
I recently had a tattoo done by Royce, and have received numerous compliments from friends & family.
