Tips for Rock-N-Roll Rentals

December 03, 2012

Horrible customer service. This was my first experience renting out any equipment for my birthday party. I rented couple of speakers, fog machine and lights for this dance party that I had been so excited about and been planning for weeks. Thanks to their run down equipment my party was ruined. The day of the event the lights don't work at all, the fog machine was totally unregulated, etc. Very dissatisfied with the equipment but even more their horrible service.

The day of going to get the rentals, they had a really long wait despite not very many people. There was one customer ahead of me who happened to go missing but these guys would not take the next one for 10 minutes at least, making us wait longer than ever. On asking for suggestions about speakers after describing it is a for a living room size place, they show us couple of options, pushing the more expensive choice, their reasoning, the less expensive option is not that good sounding. So we request to hear both the speakers before choosing and they say "No we cannot do that, we are very busy today". We end up taking the cheaper ones which worked well enough for our case.

The lights on the other hand don't even turn on at the event. Of course that ruins all the expectations and the mood for the organizers. While returning the equipment, we tell them that the lights never worked and requested if we could get a refund for that. One of the guys said " If it did not work, it is not our fault, I don't see why you should get a refund". Another guy comes up and says " You are unlucky that it did not work on your birthday party. This happens once every three months or so that the fuse might go out." I definitely felt very bad at their behavior and the way they responded. It was highly unprofessional, arrogant and mean attitude. Instead of listening to the customer, they decided to defend and even attack personally. This has caused me a very bad renting as well as personal experience. If I do rent out gears a second time in future, it will surely not be from Rock 'n' Roll rentals. They were very unprofessional and do not have good attitude towards customers.

Terrible business practices if you are a tax exempt or non profit. I work at UT which is a state agency, which by state law does not pay tax. We had a large alumni event where we had hired an event planner to run. She presented a UT tax form upon picking up the equipment but when the receipt was turned in, it had sales tax. Our admin staff called to try to get the tax refunded, first this guy hung up on her, then she called back and he basically told her "too bad" that it couldn't be refunded..BS! I could be, he just didn't want to make the effort so this will be turned over to UT purchasing and accounting.

Great customer service; great prices!. I just had a fabuious experience renting equipment at RocknRoll Rentals! I celebrated my birthday with a party and needed equpment for a friend's band and music. They explained everything very well and were extremely accommodating to me. The prices are great! The staff were not only helpful but cute too! Seriously, it is so nice to be able to feel empowered as a female to put something like this together. I highly recommend this place. I was referred there by a friend who is a musician and rents from them frequently. I just want to pass on the good referral. Thanks!

Helpful Staff, Amazing prize, right on!. I needed a sound system for my wedding reception and did not want to hire a professional dj (nor could I afford it!) I heard through a friend that he rents mobile dj systems for less than $50 from Rock nRoll Rentals. So, I call. I'm told come in starting tuesday the week you need it, and I'm nervous. I want to rent it right now! They assure me they'll have what I need, so I check out their web page and begin making my ipod play list ...

The Tuesday arrives. I come in to the store. They are very busy, and I'm told to fill out a form and given a phone book. They do ask for a lot of information, and I hear other customers complaining. I didn't mind too much. I know what this stuff is worth. Just be prepared.

The dude helping me was very helpful. He seemed to be considering all the details of my event and made recommendations based on his experience (like don't use a wireless mic on the bride - stuff I hadn't thought of.) He shows me how to plug it together and set the controls. I even get to have it all week to try it out.

It was the cheapest and easiest part of my wedding, and it worked out great.

I thought it would be too hard to do it myself, but with the help of the staff and all the time (you can pick it up on the Tuesday of the week you need it) I'm sure anyone can pull it off.

complaint resolved. The management did come forward and resolved our issues. I have tried to remove my original review - which no longer is thecase - but to no avail.

Cool Place, Cool People, Cool Stuff, Cool Rates. This place is just so South Austin, to me it's almost like a trip to the Austin of 25 years ago whenever I go there, it's the 'spirit' of the place that is so very Austin - and it's just the kind of business you would find in Austin before you'll find it anywhere else. I always get a little bit excited about music again any time I go there, and sometimes that's just what I need. This is the kind of place I'll drop in just to say hello and recharge my enthusiasm. They have everything from percussion instruments to portable studios, and rates that make it easy for anyone to be a rockstar for a day. I've gotten gear for myself to play bass, added a drum kit making it twice as easy to get a drummer, and a Stratocaster for a friend of mine who's guitar was in the shop and I was able to play a gig with a 2-day notice for less money than we would have spent just drinking! When I first got back to town I was sans guitar until I rented one from them for less than 20 dollars a month, something I thought was so well worth it that I ended up renting it for a year or more. Although they're not "rent to own" when it came time to return the guitar they offered to sell it to me for some ridiculously low price, I don't remember how much it was now but it was a very pleasant surprise that made renting for such an extended period of time even more wothwhile. I don't know how many pinches and corners RnR Rental has bailed me out of, but I tell you the place is instrumental (no pun intended) in providing the type of environment that makes Austin such a wonderful place for bands. Thanks to Rock n' Roll Rental, Austin rocks!
