Austin >Wheatsville Co-Op
Austin's home-grown, truly hippie era co-op, where the kombucha flows like honey and there are always a bevy of organic veggies. The popcorn tofu (in the deli/prepared salad section) is insanely, amazingly delicious.
I love how this store has grown. And they have so many healthy and organic grocery options, unlike many health food stores. They always support local, which we love!
A small, environmentally conscious, customer-owned grocery store offering a unique selection of products..
This is an unassuming grocery store that draws a steady crowd of Earth-aware, health-conscious people seeking high-quality goods. Indie-label grocery items and fresh produce line the shelves, though the selection can be limited. The deli at the back delivers an impressive and tasty menu of main-course dishes, smoothies and desserts. Head toward the massage-chair area and find an assortment of gifts, holistic literature and natural bath and body products.
User review by mew11. I have trusted this store for about 20 years for almost all of my purchases. Wheatsville provides bulk items (reduced packaging!); a bulk producer has resisted continuing supplying Wheatsville - namely, Avalon, a company that is to be criticized for their money-hungry action. This company should be reminded that Wheatsville is considered by many to be the BEST place to shop in Austin, for healthy food, body care, gifts, and many other fun products!
