Editorial Review for Service Menswear – by Elizabeth McGuire
The Scene
Service Menswear's bright-red neon sign beckons patrons to peruse the vast collection of casual men's clothes in a comfortably classic and manly atmosphere. This store has a devoted following in Austin--not surprising, considering the variety and style of clothing and accessories. In addition, the store has brought some of the country's hottest brands to Austin, including Ben Sherman and Penguin.
The Goods
The store's affordable, classically inspired fashion sense shines in the racks of pants, shirts, jackets and accessories. The frequently changing collections, hand-picked by the hands-on owner, includes all sorts of trendsetting gear. Men snatch up Tyler Speed's perfectly fitted logo T-shirts in many cuts and colors. Scandinavian companies Dunderdon and Melka's casually elegant and functional lines are available, while Billykirk's leather cuffs and watches, old-school Vans sneakers and a small vintage selection round out the stellar collection.

Of all the men's shops in Austin, this is the one for me (well, for my husband). Hands down, they have the best new clothes in Austin. But I'm really writing about the service. Not only do we get the best service at Service, but I've overheard OTHER people talk about the service at Service - AND Crown. And don't forget Crown. Kirk (I think that's his name) - he's mostly found at Crown - is the owner and he's the most attentive salesperson (if you want him to be. If you don't, he will definitely keep his distance). James or Hank (not sure which) is the same way at Service (but on a louder scale). Anyway, if you have a man in your life that you need to shop for, this is the place to go. If you don't have a man in your life and you ARE a man, this is the place to go. p.s. Don't be shy about asking them for a size because they should have more in back - unless you're a size 30.
Pros: Great service, great clothes!
Cons: Smaller sizes gone quickly

Nice store, nice people, but the clothes kinda scream "I'm from the South". If you like Earth-tones and thought Swingers was a cool movie, you can probably find what you want here. I'm still looking. I didn't know "trendsetters" wear Stussy.
