The meat, or should I say the milk of the matter, is the consistently delectable product and the zany antics of the scoopers behind the counter. The creamy dreamy 14 percent butterfat treat is music to the mouth of ice-cream connoisseurs and novices alike. Amy never compromises on quality ingredients, and is always open to new flavor suggestions. The folks behind the counter are dedicated to pleasing the senses not otherwise occupied with delicious dairy goodness. Amy looks at "going to get ice cream" as a total experience that should be the brightest part of our customer's day. To accomplish…

In Short – Amy's Ice Cream has been a tradition since Amy Miller opened the first shop in 1984. With such unique flavors as Mexican vanilla, sweet cream and, for the truly Texan, Shiner Bock, there's an ice cream concoction here for everyone. On warm evenings, a crowd of families and couples gather and the murmur of friendly chit-chat can be heard over the sound of paddles beating candy or cookie mix-ins into ice cream scoops.
The perfect reward for a hike around Town Lake!

I was in Austin for business last month and read about Amy's Ice Cream in several guide books. I made a special trip to the 6th street location, almost making myself late for my plane home, but it was worth it! Mexican Vanilla with prailine sauce - oh my god. And then, lo and behold, there was a branch at the airport!
- Pros: creative, bright, fun
- Cons: line moves slowly, if there's a crowd
BEST ICE-CREAM EVER
by mochicrusader at Citysearch
Amy's has by FAR the best ice-cream I have EVER had, and I've had all kinds of ice-cream. The "Elvis" (Mexican vanilla with banana and a reese's peanut butter cup) is great. Also be sure to try any Pumpkin flavors during the holiday season! In response to another reviewer who claimed the ice-cream did not melt: good quality ice-cream doesn't melt quickly at all. Only ice-cream made without very much fat (generally considered lower quality ice-cream) will melt quickly. If you don't like rich ice-cream then Amy's probably isn't the place for you, but otherwise it's great.
- Pros: wonderful ice-cream, rotating flavors, many "crush-ins"
Disappointed

My family and I just returned from Amy's Ice Cream, and we were disappointed. This is my second trip to Amy's and now I know for sure I don't care for their ice cream.
The Mexican Vanilla was not very vanilla-y and it did not melt.--Real ice cream melts. It reminded me of soupy butter with sugar in it. It falls far afield from homemade. I honestly would have preferred Benny & Jerry's, Blue Bell, Breyer's or even HEB.
This was not just my opinion, but also the opinion of my husband and 20 year old daughter.
Further, Amy's waffle cone was hard as a rock, and the loud music precluded conversation, although the actual service was good. We won't be back.
- Pros: Quick Service, Friendly Waitstaff, Clean
- Cons: Poor quality, Poor Ambience, Expensive!
