Austin >Veggie Heaven
They're not kidding when they call this. How many restaurants can you think of where the entire menu is primarily $7 and under? This iconic UT-area eatery features vegetarian fare for cheapz. You can even go as low as $5 with their Thai Rice Noodles ($4.95) or Open Sesame ($4.50), though I recommend springing the extra dollar or two to try fan faves such as the Protein 2000 (not Outkast's newest album) with protein nuggets and broccoli or the Lucky Seven with fried tofu balls and veggies. This joint is pretty no frills, but the friendly staff, quick service and sweet $5 t-shirts featuring a very happy Asian child make this a must to recapture old hippie Austin.
Great food!. I'm not a vegan or a vegetarian, and I don't usually eat or even like tofu, but Veggie Heaven is my favorite restaurant by far. Whenever I'm in Austin, I must stop by Veggie Heaven. Their food is amazing! My favorite dish is the Four Seasons. I've brought friends there who have expressed their hesitation since they don't usually eat dishes that are vegan, and they all enjoyed it. It's truly an Austin-ish restaurant.
Best vegan joint in town. amazing food. deserves all the praise they receive. kindhearted, warm and generous people who make amazing food. i love this place.
One of America's Greatest Vegetarian Resteraunts!.
I've tried places in New York and LA (and Houston, like that had much...), and Veggie Heaven is in a class of it's own. I've lived in Austin, off and on, for about 7 years and this place has been THE "go to place" for great veggie meals the whole time.
Unbeatable quality AND quantity (i've probably tried about 40 out of their 50+ entree menu, never once was I disappointed). Fast service. Great peaceful staff, that are very quick with service and very helpful if you have questions.
To be clear... what THEY SAY is the top 3, IS THE TOP 3!!! So, if you haven't been there before, you MUST get one of these 3 items, b/c they are 90% of what I've ever gotten for a reason. Protein 2000, Tangerine Mushroom, and Lucky Seven (my personal fav) are all 10 out of 10, and to be honest, the rest of the menu's items do vary from 7-9/10 (and the peanut butter noodles I'd give a 5 or 6, as my least fav thing).
Also! The steam buns are very tasty appetizer is very tasty, and the vegetarian sushi is top notch as well.
Finally, the VEGAN MILK POWDER (yes VEGAN MILK POWDER) version of their bubble tea, is the BEST BUBBLE TEA I've EVER HAD!!!! All the flavors are great (personal fav=Taro), but whether you're a hemp'd out hippie vegan, or a wild eyed Texan STEAK LOVER who just wants to try the best Bubble Tea in town, ask for the VEGAN version of the bubble tea, in the flavor of your choice.
Not a fancy location (or terribly romantic for dates), but a clean and pleasant dining space. And last time I checked, T-Shirts were only 5 bucks, and came in every color. Represent!
Veggie Heaven.... This place is certianly a dive, its extremeply packed and tiny. Staff are busy and fast! The menue is long, but it all seems to be variations on the same things. We ordered a steam bun, which was my first...and I loved it! It was doughy and delicious. I forgot the same of what I ordered but it had fried tofu, yam, and other veggies in a spicy sauce...which I ordered on the side (which came exactly as I ordered) It was a pretty simple dish, but good none the less. I've read that its dirty and what not, but If you are going to a tiny dive like this...you generally dont expect a sterile environment, to be honest. I didn't see anything abnormally dirty myself, however. I also got the brown rice, which had green things in it...lentils, i think. different, but good. Overall...i liked it and would go back.
Fast Service, Good Food. I have been here twice and have been craving it ever since! Very prompt service, but almost makes you feel rushed. Food is good, but can taste the same from entree to entree. One thing I like is that I feel healthy after leaving, not overly full and gluttonous. I reccomend this place for a quick, healthy lunch. Oh and did I mention that it's cheap too?? Nice!
This vegetarian/vegan stomping ground, with 54 menu choices, has something for everyone..
Located on Guadalupe across from Dobie Mall, this intimate eatery hosts casual patrons in its 15-table dining room decorated with sparse pinewood walls, orange terracotta-tiled floors and a few vibrant paintings. At lunchtime, the space is bustling with local office workers and has a mellow evening crowd of families and students. The stocked menu features the Mount Fuji appetizer--tortilla wraps with avocado, veggies and cream cheese. The vegetable kebabs are marinated in a rich barbecue-flavored vegetarian sauce.
A True Austin Gem. There are very few places in Austin family owned and operated. Veggie Heaven is one of Austin's best local restaurants. The food is fabulous, healthy, delicious and always hot! The variety on the menu is abundant and the vegetables taste as though they were just picked from the vine. I especially like the sauces and the chef will tailor the spiciness to my own taste. May and Stacey know me by name when I walk in the front door, greet me like an old friend coming over for lunch. I eat at Veggie Heaven almost every week.....my favorite dish..............the Lucky Seven!!! If you haven't been to Veggie Heaven you are missing out............my meat and potatoes husband loves it as much as I do....Voted Chronicles best veggie dish for many, many years!!!!
Great place for non-vegetarians too. I love meat. I love meat. I love meat. That said, I went to Veggie Heaven with my vegetarian friends and I thoroughly enjoyed the food. I ordered the Protein 2000 and a Thai dish and they tasted great. Boy were they fast to serve too; it was out in no time. My friends probably won't convert me to becoming a full-time vegetarian but eating at a place like this lets me know how it's possible.
Unique vegetarian sushi.
Stopped in for lunch. Their lunch menu is quite heavy - it seems to be the same as their dinner menu. This isn't good if you're looking for lighter fare.
Anyhow, had the vegetarian sushi which was the best I've had in MONTHS. This is because most restaurants don't serve vegetarian sushi at all, and that leads me to avoid sushi spots. Very, very good. Prompt service, reasonable prices, but a bit out of the way - even from downtown Austin.
Great-tasting, filling and all vegetarian!!. For me, a trip to Austin is not complete without a trip to Veggie Heaven. I asked a random salesperson for a vegetarian restaurant recommendation on my first trip there and Veggie Heaven is where she told me to go. I always get the Protein 2000 which ends up being enough for two meals. Also tried my Mom's Veggie Chicken Bowl a couple days ago and found it to be very tasty as well, with a slightly sweet flavor to the "chicken". Even my dad (not a vegetarian) enjoyed his meal! I definitely recommend it for the reasonably priced, great-tasting, filling, healthy vegetarian food! =)
