In Short – The spacious front room of this decades-old institution includes a stage, with pool tables, pinball and shuffleboard in the back. Customer vary from college kids to boomers to old-timers. More than 10,000 artists have performed here, including Stevie Ray Vaughan and Fastball. Import and domestic bottles are available, plus there's a full bar that includes pitchers of Lone Star. A jukebox features Liz Phair, Willie Nelson, Nick Cave, Leonard Cohen, Neko Case and the Donnas.

Editor's Tips

What to Eat:
The Hole offers a small, but delicious and affordable barbecue menu. Try hearty chopped beef sandwiches and flavorful, mustard-packed potato salad.
Where to Sit:
A back patio offers outdoor seating for smokers and others taking a break from the mayhem indoors.
The Extras:
There isn't an ATM on-site, but nearby cash machines include University Federal Credit Unions one block in each direction: 2612 and 2434 Guadalupe.

Hole in the Wall has adapted well to Austin- huge patios, great drinks, foosball, and every genre of live music. Gritty yet refined.

Great place to get down

by bakecn21

Real killer vibe. Outlaw feel to this joint. Every time I've been in, the drinks were inexpensive, strong, and tasty, and the bands they bring in are the best around town for a fella like me.

welcome change of pace

by bartendervista

Awesome drink specials, i had 5 shots of Jameson and 2 fireman's 4's for like 20 bucks, take that 6th street! All this while watching 4 bluegrass bands for free, 3 of which were actually really good! My lady bartender was hot and flirt y and i got to drink and hangout with the headlining band, the Lonesome hero's, after they played. If your tired of 6th or simply just can't afford it try out the hole in the wall also, I recommend mug shots, bar fly's, and Scoot inn. All four of these guys are awesome simply because sometimes you want to get blasted somewhere without a sorrostitute screaming "Oh my god Thats sooballer!" into your ear.

  • Pros: Cheap and fun
  • Cons: parking was little irritating but apparently you can park in the lot nextdoor after 9 or 10 but i'm not sure
