You can come for the food and drink but the real prize here is the view of Lake Austin. All of the specialty drinks can be made frozen.
Review from a parent's point of view. Unable to get a tix for the UT/A&M blow-out, I hunkered down at C&A to watch the game on TV. Another "parent looking" couple struck up a conversation. Lo & behold, they were the owners' parents. Terrific folks. They invited me to join them, bought me a drink & food, made me feel right at home & comfortable, even though I was by myself. Once the "kids" showed up, it was time to clear out, but it's nice to find a place where everyone can fit in, and the owners take the mantra of "customer service" to a high level.
Not a fair review. Okay, I've only recently started going here so I haven't experienced the place with the college crowd in town. What I have seen, though, is a great neighborhood bar, not too much atmosphere but a friendly ambiance, with tasty, generously portioned food at reasonable prices. I will recommend the fries, especially with all the extras, but I can't say anything good about the nachos. Lots of televisions, and specials seemingly all the time.
A Fraternity-Animal House Bar On UT Campus.
The Scene
This well-known, well-frequented college sports bar has been a staple near the Greek Fraternity area of the University of Texas for over 10 years. Many consider this bar the best place to watch UT away games on their seven TVs while trying to meet that perfect sorority girl or frat guy.
Cain & Abel's is a sports bar, so be prepared to see lots of neon beer signs, wooden floors, cheep beer and slightly scary bathrooms. The casual feel of the bar warrants patrons wearing sports jerseys. Frat/sorority threads and khaki pants are about as dressy as anyone ever gets at the bar.
The Food
Complete with a soothing outdoor patio, Cain & Abel's offer a fantastic finger-food menu geared to subside any sports bar appetite. If your in the mood for a traditional wild college sports bar and cheap beer you will have a hard time finding a better frat bar than Cain & Abel's in Austin.
