What People Are Saying About Posse East

In Short – Housed in a gas station from the late 1930s, Posse East is a popular UT-area watering hole. There are tables and chairs with weather-beaten umbrellas outdoors and large-screen TVs (showing only sports--ideally, Longhorn games), pinball machines and two dart boards inside. A must for slackers and connoisseurs of no-frills dining like breakfast tacos and huevos racheros. The patio offers an unobstructed view of University of Texas life--students, frat brothers and panhandlers are all in view.

This is a great place for the family or just to go and hang out with friends. No it isn't gourmet food, but the burgers are out of this world. In response to the person who thought this place was awful, you apparently don't know what a good dive is, not to mention they have numerous flat screen hd tv's all over the place. It has been there since 1971 and has a great atmosphere for people of all ages. I have been going there since the 1980's and it keeps getting better and better, hence why they have been there for over 30 years with the original owner still to this day. They have over 20 diffrent beers on draft along with a wide range of bottled beer. I hear from people who have graduated and moved away that still come and hang out when they visit Austin. It is a great place to hang out and grab a burger. I would highly recommend this little resturant and bar to eveyone, just try it out for yourself and you will see you are gonna love it.
- Pros: Great food and a great atmosphere
- Cons: none
Great place after a long day of work or class

Lots of good beers, not too loud, and good place to unwind after a long day. You shouldn't go here expecting a gourmet meal, but expecting a good beer is more like the right speed for posse. Good place to sit around and talk with friends or watch a game.
- Pros: Relaxed crowd
- Cons: Not a lot of indoor seating.
Nasty

I'm so f***ing sick and tired of places like this around campus that touts itself as a dive in order to rip off poor students (or the idiotic ones who don't know any better and keep going back). Entertain this: you can get a large fish sandwich at, oh I don't know, Jack-in-the-Box for $1.29, or you can get some shredded taco lettuce with tomatoes (that's all) between two small, soggy buns for almost $4. Hmmm. Really, must be the stellar (non-existent) service or the amazing atmosphere (next to a giant, sh*tty, dusty bookcase) that clinches it as an 'Austin institution'. Or maybe it's the TVs. Or the fact they charge for water. I must go back until I figure out *exactly* what the magic of this little quaint find is.
- Pros: It would probably survive an earthquake.
- Cons: Yes.
