What People Are Saying About Kerbey Lane Cafe

In Short – A typical Austin mix of students, professors and hipsters recovering from a night imbibing on the town, this place is cozy and homey. You're sure to happen upon an interesting conversation or two. A short stack of fluffy gingerbread pancakes will make you unable to move. A dessert that has to be ordered to be believed is the rich tofu chocolate cheezecake.
Editor's Tips
- The Extras:
- Unlike the other Kerbey Lanes, there's usually live music every weekend on the patio.
- Look Good:
- Almost all of the fruits and veggies come from local markets, chiefly Hill Country Produce. Support your local farmer. In Kerbey Lane's case, her name is Cora.
- When to Go:
- When the bars close, this place is packed. But curiously, from mid-afternoon to past dinnertime, it's often empty
Quality down and prices up.

I come back here every six-eight months to see if anything has changed. They are on a steady trend downward. They keep removing things from the menu like homemade potato chips or cinnamon buns. Prices have gone up a lot as well.
If for some reason you order takeout check everything carefully they often leave items out or get orders incorrect.
My latest trip resulted in chips and queso with no queso it was made incorrectly as well.

Kirby Lane is an ok place it has three things going for it LOCATION, its located right next to UT, collage students arnt picky with food I guess, Stays open late actually 24 hours I think and 24 hour breakfast as well, And a select good things on the menu. When I go to Kirby Lane I always get the same things pancakes and queso, yes together, cuz thats all I like there and the turkey club sandwich or whatever its called is ok too. I tried to stray away from these very few Items and it was not a good Idea on my part.
As for service its hit or miss just depends on how lucky you are that day sometimes you will get OK waiters, never excilent, or just plane lazy ones.
Good option for late dinning but then again setting yourself up for bad service cuz late night is when they are most busy and during the day you can find much better food for better price as well.
Decent Breakfast

Went to Kerbey Lane for a lazy Sunday morning breakfast. The place was buzzing around 10am even though UT classes don't resume for another another week, but only had to wait about 5 minutes for a table.
The food was just what you expect at a diner-- good, but not great. They use eggs only from local sources which I think is very cool. All in all, an enjoyable experience and a nice chance to read through the latest Austin Chronicle.
- Pros: Good Diner Food, Inexpensive
- Cons: Not spectacular
The best caterer .....

We've used KLC several times for large luncheons. We chose them for our holiday party. We had a dinner for 120 folks that was cancelled within 45 minutes of serving. the delivery people hung with me on the phone for over an hour to make sure the food was delivered to a homeless shelter. They delivered to the shelter on a Saturday night and they waited to meet me. What a holiday joy!!! We donated food together. Great folks at KLC.
- Pros: When in crises they stay the calm
Decent and convenient location

Kerbey Lane has two things going for it...the location and decent pancakes. Their food isn't spectacular by a long shot and I would honestly prefer a chain restaurant like IHOP to a lot of their options. However the huge size of their decent pancakes does a lot to help them out. The servers aren't as rude as they are made out to be. If you are in the UT area and want a quick short stack and coffee then this is the place for you. However, if you are looking for a high quality and all around delicious saturday morning breakfast I recommend Hoover's or The Original Pancake House
- Pros: Location
