In Short
Opened in 1926, Dirty's has long been a pilgrimage for visiting ex-Austinites as well as college students, blue-collar workers and a few old-timers who like joking around with the waitresses. The interior is basic burger stand: Formica counters, plastic booths, vinyl-topped stools, a foggy window looking out onto the Drag and framed, yellowed clippings and photos of famous patrons. The cooks prepare their small menu the classic way, with a deep-fryer and a large grill.

Wow! Has a cool "Keep Austin Weird" personality. Old-time place with old-time hamburgers. It seems like a crime to call them simply "burgers." If you like greasy hamburgers, this is the place. Sit at the counter. See the cook prepare your hambuger right in front of you. The hamburger is served with mustard, as all good hamburgers should be, and a good old-fashioned ketchup squeeze bottle always close-by. One bite and I closed my eyes in a heavenly hamburger revery that was interrupted by the guy at the front counter who brought me a milkshake and onion rings. Never mind, I closed my eves and continued my heavenly revery until I finished eating what must be the best hamburger in Austin. If you crave a Rosco's hamburger from El Paso, and there are a few of us out there, Dirty Martin's is every bit as good. Unless you want grease dripping from your fingers, literally, Do Not order the onion rings. A deliciously greasy Dirty Martin's Hamburger is one thing, but greasy onion rings are disgusting. I have not tried the fries yet. The milkshake presentation is the best and most interesting I've ever seen. The guy at the counter always tosses in a design using whipped cream with a cherry on top. The shake is decent, but I would not order it again. Tomorrow, I plan to go back for the second time this week to order two hamburgers. The hamburgers are not small, I just crave them that much. With a hamburger this good, who needs side orders? I'll just have two hamburgers and a Coke. I'll take a chance and order the fries.

We went to Dirty's and must say that we were really surprised. The food was great and the Onion Rings were better than any I've ever had, but there was a young man there named Jesse who really made it worth our visit. He made us feel right at home and even though the staff was really busy this young man seemed to go out of his way, not only to make us comfortable, but everyone around us comfortable as well. Our hats off to Dirty's for hiring such excellent help. We will definately be back.

The wife and I ate at Dirty's for the first time and were suprised. Plenty of seating, parking was good and the burgers were delicious. We both had the O.T. Special (bacon cheeseburger) and some onion rings. The buns were cooked on the grill, nice and crispy, and the burgers were perfect. Plus the Lone Star was cheap and the misting fans on the patio helped cool the place off. Granted, it was early afternoon on a Saturday, and they were far from slammed, but the service was great and the food was better. Two burgers, a plate of onion rings and 4 Lone Stars for around twenty bucks. A+.
