The receptionist REFUSED to see me.
My week is irritating so far- maybe it's PMS. I HAD an appt at the gyno today but no one called to confirm the appt/- so I called to confirm it. They had asked me when I made the appt if I ever had an abnormal pap, I said "yes" I should have said "no" but I said "yes"
And the bitch receptionist (that-BTW I had to call 3 THREE THREE times to ask if they took my insurance, the first time she said "no" and I said "you are on my list" and she said "call your insurance company to make sure we are on there- sometimes they change without updating the website" and so I called the insurance company and THEN called her back and she still said "no" "call you insurance again and see if maybe we are carriers with a different name" so I did.. and they were.. under a different name) told me I must bring in my past medical records from my last two GYN appts.- well I have never heard that they won't see you if you don’t have past medical records- so when I called to confirm she said "do you have you past records" and I said "I have the abnormal PAP records, and my last PAP was normal, so I didn't get that one" and she said "well, I can't take your word for it that it was normal, we need to reschedule this appt until you get both of them" I told her I just need BCP and I have been going to the GYN for 10 years and never had to bring anything but my PUSSY to the GYN. Anyway, after all that no appt- i called another office and made and appt- they didn’t ask anything but my name, phone number and insurance name and a "we'll see you Monday"
GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
waste of my time, and I will have to go a month without birth control. AWESOME.
Great Doc. My opionion of Dr Schmitz is she is a wonderful doctor. She will take care of your every need. I have trouble carrying babies and she made sure that I would deliver a full term baby. The only thing is she is very blunt and it can be offensive at times. There were several times she hurt my feelings from some comments that she made. I think in the condition I was in she should of been a little more sensitive. She tends to be judgmental.Barbara however is very nice and is very careful how she words things. She has a lot of experience working with teenagers so she would be the best bet if you are looking for your young daughter. I have been a patient there since 2003 and I will not change doctors, despite her judgemental ways she takes very good care of my pregnacys and me. I would'nt trust another doctor the way I trust her.
love doctor, hate nurse.
I had a WONDERFUL experience with Dr. Schmitz, with the birth of my son last year. She fully supported my wishes for a natural birth and never pushed interventions like a c-section. She treated me with compassion and concern, spending several hours during my labor on a Saturday when I'm sure she would have rather been spending time with her family.
Unfortunately, I had a horrible experience with her nurse practitioner. Barbara never listened, but instead dolled out canned instructions without consulting to see what would help my specific situation. For instance, I had terrible heartburn during pregnancy and she just brushed it off by telling me to avoid specific foods - foods that I didn't eat anyway. She refused to prescribe a medication that would be safe and effective. I also developed a excruciating postpartum rash and she told me to just use calamine lotion, which does absolutely nothing for this condition. Dr. Schmitz later said I should have called her over the holiday weekend for help, but Barbara had said that I just needed to tough it out, with calamine lotion and oatmeal baths.
I would love to deliver my next child with Dr. Schmitz, but she is now at South Austin Hospital and the experiences with Barbara have left me looking elsewhere. Seton SW was such a great place to give birth and there is no need to subject myself to any more interactions with Barbara. There's enough stress involved with pregnancy than to have to deal with that...
(I agree the wait times can be terribly inconvenient, but if I had been ready to deliver during her office hours, I would have wanted her there with me too! So I cut her slack for that. But, it would be nice if the office staff would keep the waiting patients informed, rather than just waiting with no idea of what is going on.)
Always responds to concerns. I disagree with the last reviewers comments completely. I have been seeing Dr Schmitz since 1999 and she has delivered 2 of my 3 children. She has never pushed a C-section on me at all. In fact, both of my children were breech and Dr. Schmitz did an external version procedure both times and successfully turned the baby in both cases- all to avoid C-section! Dr. Schmitz helped me deliver my largest child (over 10 lbs. and the delivery was the best one I have ever had). I did not have a C-section and, with the help of olive oil, the delivery was amazingly trouble-free. In my experience, if Dr Schmitz recommends surgery it is because it is really necessary. Also, Dr. Schmitz also always responds to concerns that I have and I have never walked away feeling like a problem is unresolved. To be fair, there are a couple of downsides. One issue is that she is a solo practitioner and there are sometimes long waits, but that can happen with any OB. The biggest detractor from her office, in my opinion, is the nursing staff. The receptionists are great, but the nurses seem inexperienced and the nurse practitioner in her office tends to be dismissive of concerns. All that aside, I am a loyal patient of Dr. Schmitz because she has always done the right thing for me and my babies.
Warning: This Woman is C-Section Happy!. This doctor is NOT very compassionate and certainly does not listen to the patient's needs. She is more concerned with convenience and what makes her life easier. She forced us to have a C-Section against our will because of "Failure to Progress", when all of us (baby and mom) were fine and willing to continue. The truth was that our baby was born at 6pm and Dr. Smitz wanted to go home to dinner with her family and was tired of waiting for us. Most of her patients end up with C-Sections b/c it is easier for her and she makes more money from C-Sections.
