One of the cashiers was very rude . I had a coupon which was was for after 4:00pm and it was still 10 to 4:00 so she would not take it - said register wouldn't let her. Other cashier overhead and took it. Later we realized if we had just paid the lunch (which ends at 4:00) and not used the coupon it would have been cheaper. So actually this coupon was a dishonest ploy to get us in there in my opinion. The meats and veges are just barely average. The deserts are just not good or special in any way. The hot bread is the only item really good. A decent variety of salad items. Since kids get drinks free with their meal it if a average price for them to have a variety and some ice cream and they do like to look and choose.

Ryan's has very limited amounts of everything. A couple of veggies here, a couple of fried things there. Oh, and mashed potatoes-not baked or fried, just mashed (and one type of gravy). I think the other review was correct in stating that they just add to the items instead of putting fresh food out. Everything was very mushy and sweet or hard and tasteless. The rolls were the best part of this meal. Staff was very courteous as well.

Nowhere else can you find decent food that is as plentiful as this. Sure, this isn't Dan McClusky's or Ruth's Chris Steakhouse, but it doesn't need to be. Going to Ryan's is like going to the grandma you had who could cook really, really well. We're not talking "gourmet" here, but wholesome, home-cooked meals which often are better than "gourmet." Ryan's is a terrific intersection between taste and price, the management and waiters are extremely cordial, and I try to go there as often as possible. I've eaten at country clubs in Austin, places like the Four Seasons and the Hyatt, but paying $40-50 bucks for food that doesn't leave me full is not fun. I love Ryans, have eaten there for about four years, and I'll keep going there until I die, leave Austin, or both.
