Tips for Austin Furniture Consignment

November 09, 2012

I sold my furniture thru this store & they told me they would send me a check for $170, but never did & did not respond to any of my phone calls or even my complaint to the BBB. I would NEVER do business with them as they behave like criminals. It may be fine to purchase furniture there, but since they do not pay the previous owner of that furniture, it is basically stealing & I do not think Austin shoppers should support such a sleazy business.

We sold our sectional sofa through Austin Furniture Consignment. We read the paperwork very carefully before we signed it. When it sold they gave us the price they sold it for: $450, which we would get half of, or $225. This surprised us because they had agreed not to go that low without informing us. When we went into the store they accidentally showed us the receipt showing that it had actually sold for $850, which meant we should have been paid $425. When we asked about it they gave us a couple different stories that didn't really add up, but quickly offered us $300. It seemed odd that they would quickly agree to pay that much more if they really had sold it for $450. We felt like we were being lied to but since there was nothing we could do about it we agreed to the $300. At the time they had told us they were moving locations but didn't have one yet. It was a compromise, but we were afraid they would take the money and run.

When we got the check for $300 we deposited it. We discovered a few days later when we logged onto our bank account that the check had bounced. My wife called and explained the situation to the person who answered the phone. They said they couldn't do anything about it but the manager would call us back that day. He never did. She called again and the person who answered the phone said the manager was busy but would call her back that day. He never did.

We still haven't been paid or received a phone call. My recommendation: if you need to get rid of furniture, put it on the curb. You'll save yourself the trip to the store and the bank fees for a bounced check. If you're considering buying furniture from them, you may be buying stolen property. If you've already sold furniture through them, you should probably ask to see the paperwork instead of taking their word for.

A sigh of relief. These guys are great. I found the perfect desk to fit my needs at a modest price that was not some piece of particle board nonsense. The employees where helpful and far from pushy which was a relief. the owner even ended up delivering my desk for free on his way home the following day for $20. Given I don't have a truck that helped a ton.

A few months later I even consigned some of my old roommates pine bedroom furniture and the process of dropping things off and getting my checks went pretty smoothly which i was skeptical about. I've heard horror stories of people consigning furniture but it really wasn't bad and i didn't have to do anything besides drop off the furniture and come in to pick up my checks. everything sold but a lamp i had which i just ended up giving them to sell for whatever. kind of like a poor man's tip or something.

The business has a definite feel to it. it was unlike any place I've been in shopping for furniture. The employees where a lot of help and the owner was very personable and i never felt like i was a customer. It was kinda cool in that sense. All in all it was a good experience and I've been back in to find a few more items as well over the last few months

AWESOME PRICES great service. Walked in was greeted by a cute girl. Bought a great leaving room set for $350 which was later delivered ($60 delivery fee) they set it up where I wanted. I have been back purchased a bedroom set same great service and it cost me half of what I originally had in my budget. I highly recommend this place for anyone on a budget.

Great Stuff on the Right Day!. Great stuff - Obviously some junk but there are some really cool deals. I am buying a bedframe for my son with new mattresses and it is under $200. My girlfriend referred me to them and she bought her bedroom furniture there as well. Very cool people.
